Rain, Rain, Go Away!
It appears that the rain continues to prevent us from enjoying some of the big sporting events this term. This has led to the postponement and modification of the zone cross country carnival as well as the postponement of our athletics carnival. Maybe it’s time for us all to come together and do a big “go away rain” dance — fingers crossed it works and we can get back outside soon!
Although reported 'swamps' at the athletics carnival venue put the event on hold, the sun came out blazing for the K-2 carnival a fortnight ago, lighting up the day and giving everyone a chance to shine bright.
We were lucky enough to have both the AFL clinic and soccer clinic over the past few weeks, giving students fantastic opportunities to develop their skills and enjoy some great physical activity. We still have plenty to look forward to as we finish this term and head into Term 3, including more basketball clinics and the Season 2 Gala Day for Years 3–6.
Check out some of the exciting events we’ve had this term!
Zone Cross Country Carnival
Congratulations to the 32 students who represented Green Valley at the Zone Cross Country Carnival!
A big shout-out to Aeddianne Gambe and Alexa Glavan, who represented Green Valley as part of the GVPSSA Cross Country team at the Sydney Southwest Regional Championships. Well done!
Zone District Teams
Congratulations to the following students who have made a GVPPSA Zone team in the past few weeks.
Boys' Touch Football;
- Omar Moussa
Girls' Touch Football;
- Giovanna Eliaa Hikmet
- Aeddianne Gambe
Well done to all other students who went down to the fields and had a go!
K-2 Athletics Carnival
Students from kindergarten to Year 2 enjoyed a day of fun in the sun, rotating through a variety of games and modified athletics events that gave them a taste on what’s to come in future years. The tunes were pumping, spirits were high, and the sunshine didn’t miss a beat.
A huge thank you to our wonderful teachers and support staff who went the distance to make the day a success — we couldn’t have done it without your dedication!
Some of the exciting events included long jump, running races and relays, modified shot put and discus, egg-and-spoon races, sack jumps, cornhole challenges and a competitive round of Rob the Nest.
But the true highlight of the day was our reigning running race champion — Mr Brook — who was challenged not only by the little people but also the big ones! Little (and long) legs were pumping, but nothing could beat the graceful, gazelle-like strides of Mr Brook.
He really did make it look easy — so easy, in fact, we’re starting to wonder if he’s been secretly training for the Teacher Olympics!
AFL Clinic
We were lucky enough to have some fantastic coaches from GWS Giants visit in week 6 to teach us some amazing AFL skills! We learned how to step, drop, kick an AFL ball and took part in some super fun team-building challenges along the way. It was a great opportunity to get active, work together, and build our confidence on the field - all while having a ball!
Basketball Clinic
Students in Stage 2 and 3 participated in the Bankstown Bruins Basketball Clinic last Thursday — the first of three exciting sessions this term! It was a great opportunity for us to develop our basketball skills, learn from experienced coaches, and even uncover some hidden talent among our students. We can’t wait to hit the court again for the next session!
'Bulls in Schools' - Soccer Clinic
We were thrilled to welcome coaches from the Macarthur Bulls to Green Valley for a free soccer clinic! Students from kindergarten to Year 6 had the opportunity to take part in this exciting program, which focused on building not just soccer skills, but also confidence and teamwork.
Throughout the clinic, students developed important abilities such as:
- Teamwork
- Communication
- Gross motor skills
- Hand-eye coordination
- Inclusion and harmony
- Improved self-esteem
It was a fun and active day that left everyone smiling — and maybe even dreaming of a future soccer career!
