Teaching and Learning + Book Club

Hello families,
A huge thank you for supporting your children in our Premier's Reading Challenge. It is fantastic to see so many books being logged for verification!
Currently we are finalising teacher judgements for reporting and I wanted to highlight changes in your child's semester report.
Last year we transitioned to Victoria’s new Curriculum, English and Mathematics 2.0. With full implementation now a Department requirement we have also moved to an aggregated score for Mathematics. This aggregated score includes the assessment of the six strands of Mathematics. From Foundation to Year 2 these include Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space and Statistics. For students in Years 3-10, Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability. Learning Continuums give achievement details for each strand that has been taught and assessed for this semester.
For more information, please reach out to your child’s teacher or follow the link.
We look forward to celebrating your child’s learning next term at our Student Led Conferences on Monday 28th July. Teachers will send your invitations early next term, so that you can book your conference time via Sentral.
Here is an update on the Content Knowledge units our students are currently investigating.
As our term marches toward conclusion, teaching and learning continues to be our priority and focus. Here is an update on the Content Knowledge units our students are currently investigating.
Foundation
My Place, My Country, My World
In our final two weeks, Foundation students are reviewing their understanding of the earth's continents and the animals and places you find there.
Junior School
Community Histories - Bungawitta
Our Junior School students are reading the final chapters of Bungawitta and comparing and contrasting our Teesdale community with that of the fictitious Bungawitta. Written in the early 2000s, Bungawitta touches on hardships that rural communities face in Australia, including drought, declining populations and how to communicate pre internet. Pass the phonebook Miss Musselwhite!
Middle School
The Wind in the Willows
Middle school students are completing the reading of The Wind in the Willows and have been exploring the recurring themes of friendship, loyalty, and responsibility. Students have been drafting persuasive essays on these themes and will use the writing process to improve their writing prior to publishing.
Senior School
Great Lakes of the World & Australia
Before setting off on Senior School camp last week, students embarked on a new unit, ‘Rivers of Australia and the World.’ Engagement in the new unit was very high as students could connect to their prior knowledge of rivers they've seen, visited or swam in on holidays.
Returning from camp, students will broaden their knowledge and understanding of rivers around the world and how they provide not only water, but other resources that help people live.
Finally, earlier this term I had the pleasure of taking our school leaders to North Geelong Secondary College for the annual Geelong Young Leaders’ Breakfast. The keynote speaker was Justine Martin who shared her story of resilience and what it means to get back up again after you are knocked down. It was wonderful to learn that Justine grew up in Teesdale, connecting with our leaders about our General Store and Turtle Bend!
Happy learning!
