SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Next week Korumburra Secondary College will celebrate NAIDOC Week, which runs from the first Sunday in July to the following Sunday each year. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia. The week is observed not just by Indigenous Australian communities but also by government agencies, schools, local councils, and workplaces.

Our NAIDOC Week at KSC will start with a Whole School Assembly on Monday June 30th at 2.15pm. Parents and community members are invited to attend.

As part of our celebration we are exploring an exciting new project that celebrates First Nations culture through art, storytelling, and connection to Country.

In Stage 1, our Indigenous students from the Yarning Circle will work in partnership with a Bunurong artist to co-design a new artwork to feature on our new school sign. This artwork will reflect the stories, symbols, and values that are culturally significant to them and the local area. This work will start next week and take around 10 weeks of collaboration to produce the final design.

Stage 2 will be part of the planned car loop safety works that we are currently putting out to tender through the VSBA (Victorian School Building Authority). Students will collaborate with an Indigenous landscaper/ sculpture artist to enhance the school’s entrance through a thoughtfully designed Indigenous garden, incorporating our existing learning stones and guided by local cultural knowledge. The space will not only beautify the school but serve as a living, growing place of learning and respect.

Most importantly, this project empowers our Indigenous students by giving them voice, agency, and pride in leading a lasting legacy for our school community. This is a significant project that truly reflects the NAIDOC Week 2025 theme of The Next Generation; Strength, Vision and Legacy.

We hope to see you at the Assembly if you can make it.
