OUTDOOR EDUCATION

YEAR 9

The Year 9 Outdoor Ed class participated in a mini camp at the Prom which provided active participation in the new pursuit of surfing. Most of them were first timers but were excited to learn the basics of how to pop up, find the sweet spot on the board, and read the line up. After some initial instruction on the beach, they donned their wetsuits and paddled their surfboards out into the surf. There were plenty of wipeouts at the beginning, but their faces lighting up whenever they managed to ride the foam in a straight line and were generally stoked just to be standing and riding. It was a fabulous day in the sun, and there was definitely improvement as the day progressed.

GEORGE BASS COASTAL HIKE

Last week, as the final excursion of the Year 9 Outdoor Education class for Semester One, students undertook a scenic walk along the Bass Coast from San Remo to Kilcunda.

Students lead the excursion and worked together very well as a team. Students learnt about the coastal and marine environments and how to identify hazards and manage risks in aquatic environments.

Overall an excellent Semester for the Year 9 Outdoor Education Program.  We look forward to the next class in Semester Two.
