Term 3, Week 2

Welcome to BPS Physical Education & Sport Term 3

I hope you are all back into the swing of our third term for the year as this cold weather continues. I'm not sure about you but I long for the sun to shine again. Ethan's State Hockey Achievement!

Our talented Grade 6 hockey player and goalie, Ethan, spent a lot of his school holidays padded up in hockey gear at the U12s Hockey Victoria Junior State Championships. This is the third year Ethan has been selected to play for the North East Metro Red Devils. Ethan's team played 8 games across two days and went into the Gold Medal match unbeaten. They finished second and came away with a Silver Medal.

Ethan was also also selected for the U14 Indoor Fast Track Academy squad as a field player. The squad is a pathway for State selection later this year and is coached by Australian Indoor Hockey Head Coach Steve Weller.

Congratulations Ethan and well done to your Mum as team manager! An awesome family effort!!

Lachie's Ice Hockey Team Gold Medal at Newcastle Championships

Congratulations to our "Mighty Duck", BPS Grade 5 Ice Hockey player and student, Lachlan, who captained his under 12's ice hockey team at the national club championships in Newcastle, over the school holidays. Lachie and his team played 10 matches over three days and made the grand final and won it 4-1. Lachie score two of his team's four goals and was awarded the "Mighty Duck" award for best team player in the Grand Final. Congratulations to both Mum, Leigh-Ann, and Dad, Jason, who is a keen ice hockey player himself, who was assistant coach of Lachie's team and is an awesome mentor to his son.

BPS included in Carlton Respects 10th Anniversary

To celebrate the 10th year of the Carlton Respects program in schools and AFL game honouring this important cause, BPS was given the opportunity to be part of the Guard of Honour at the round 18 Carlton Respects game at the MCG. BPS is part of this important "Road to Respect" primary education program which our grade 3 - 6 students took part in 2024 and hope to again in 2025. The 2025 Carlton Respects Guernsey, worn by the Carlton players this year, names a list of the primary schools who have been involved in the program, including Blackburn Primary School.

The Carlton Blues gave primary schools involved in the "Road to Respects" program a chance to be a part of the 10th anniversary in a Guard of Honour for the Blues game against Melbourne in Round 18. Mr C gave the opportunity to one of our Grade 6 Blues supporters, Jessie, to be a part of the Guard of Honour for the Carlton players as they ran onto the MCG. On the night, Carlton gave Jessie and her sister, Zoe, and Dad, Jason all a special spot in the Guard of Honour on the coveted MCG turf. The icing on the Blues cake was that Carlton pulled off an eight point win over the Dees.

Carlton Respects Website; explaining the education program.

The Carlton Football Club's Road to Respect program is a digital learning platform aimed at educating students about respect and equality.  Carlton Respects is the Carlton Football Club’s flagship community initiative, promoting gender equality for the prevention of violence against women. The platform’s purpose centres around prevention and positive impact, stopping disrespect at the start by having an impact in young people’s lives and aiming to grow a society where violence is eradicated.
