Principal's Report

Welcome to the first edition of our newsletter in Term 3! We have had a strong start to the term and rather confidently in that our calendar is full to the brim of exciting excursions, events and fun things. As we commence a new semester, it is once again an opportunity to reflect on the growth in all our students and to give thanks to our wonderful staff and supportive families. I encourage all students to get off to the best start that they can and begin working immediately on achieving the goals that they have set with their teacher and families, after receiving mid-year reports.
NAPLAN
Congratulations to our Year 3 and Year 5 students on their outstanding NAPLAN results! Your hard work, dedication, and commitment to learning have truly paid off. We are incredibly proud of your achievements and the excellent progress you've made. The overall results for our school are again excellent - 8 out of the 10 measures performing ahead of similar schools to ours. We have been acknowledged by the Department of Education for these results and later this term will be visited by some Senior Executives and Principals from other schools to look at the work we are doing as a school.
Uniform Refresh: A New Look for BPS
As part of our ongoing school refresh, we’re excited to share the next step in our journey — a modern, updated school uniform designed to reflect our future focus and strong school identity. Our goal is to modernise the uniform while honouring our school’s 136-year history, and to ensure it remains distinct and practical for our students. Importantly, we aim to refresh the uniform design to create a distinctive and modern look that sets us apart from other schools that use maroon and gold. I am pleased to share the current concept that we have received and are working with the supplier on

Anaphylaxis
We remind all members of our school community that we have several students with severe allergies, including life-threatening anaphylaxis. Even trace amounts of certain allergens—such as nuts, eggs, or dairy—can cause a serious reaction. For this reason, we ask all families to be vigilant when packing lunches and snacks, and to avoid sending any food items that may put others at risk. Your support and understanding are essential in keeping our school environment safe and inclusive for all students.
2026 Foundation Enrolments
We are thrilled to begin offering places to our Foundation 2026 students and to welcome new families into our school community. Starting school is a significant milestone, and it is always a joy to see the excitement and anticipation on the faces of our newest learners. Our comprehensive transition program will run throughout November 2025, providing opportunities for children to become familiar with the school environment, meet their teachers, and begin building connections with their peers. We look forward to supporting every child as they take their first confident steps into primary school life.
STUDENT SAFETY
As spring approaches and more students begin walking or riding to school, it’s timely to remind families about the importance of discussing Stranger Danger and general safety with your children. While our Wellbeing Programs at school cover personal safety and protective behaviours, these important conversations are most powerful when reinforced at home.
Please take the time to talk with your child about what to do if they feel unsafe or encounter a stranger. Encourage them to walk in groups, stay on well-used paths, and where possible, travel at the same time as other families. Discuss safe houses or familiar families along the route, and consider the use of TheirCare if your child needs supervision before or after school.
The Department of Education’s Emergency Management system ensures that any safety incidents are shared promptly with neighbouring schools, and local police remain vigilant when reports are made.
Together, we all have a role to play in keeping our community safe. One helpful resource for families is the Safety4Kidswebsite, which provides practical tools and child-friendly advice to support these important conversations at home.
