Environmental Matters
Container Deposit Scheme
The College recently received three recycle bins from Return It. A huge thank you to this company.
This came about from a student driven request that we join the container recycle program.
Working together, we can keep unnecessary rubbish out of landfill, particularly plastics which leach into the soil, and subsequently the food chain. AND we are rewarded 10c for each container we return.
So what does it take? A few extra steps to the conveniently located bins – outside the library, the lockerbay/woodwork area, and outside Café Naz’s booth. Please do not put other rubbish in these bins as it contaminates the recycling process.
Cans, drink bottles, juice and milk paper containers (like prima packs) are all part of this circular environmental economy.
VCE VM and LEAP students use proceeds from our container recycling to purchase plants for the College gardens.
Please do not place general food rubbish or plastic/chip wrappers in these bins, as this contaminates them.
Environmental Club
School Captain Victoria Tsolakis, along with environmental crusader Ms Yukari Nibun, are starting up a club form students who are interested in environmental issues. Meetings will be held once a cycle in G1-17. See SIMON Morning Notices for more details.
Student Leadership Social Events
Year 10 Social
A group of well organised Year 10 students is working closely with Mr Brown to ensure that the Year 10 Social is a blast this year. It is terrific to see them seek feedback from their year level, and to take on responsibilities for the night.
Year 11 Debutante Ball
Although not a Nazareth Event, two talented student leaders in Year 11 have organised a Deb Ball for interested students. Last Monday, dance rehearsals commenced, with 22 couples coached by South Eastern Presentations. There was trepidation and excitement in the auditorium as students learnt step by step, the choreography of their first dance. It was quite remarkable to see them arrive without knowledge of the dance, to being able to perform it as a group within two hours! Even more momentous is that our young people were phone-free for an evening!
A special shout out to Amelie Mauceri and Liani Mademlis for making this special event a possibility.
The Deb Ball will take place on Saturday 2 August 2, with tickets for sale via the families who have sons/daughters participating in the event.
