Deputy Principal Staff and Students Report

End of Term
As we rapidly approach the end of term it is good to reflect on all the things we have achieved this term and to see how we are tracking with the goals we have set for ourselves at the start of the term. It has been a long term and as a school we celebrate the achievements and are aware of growth, improvement and development across the school community. As a staff we have reflected on our goals in our annual Action Plan. Growth in our Faith Team, ownership and opportunities for faith development as well as students’ input in the faith dimension were some of the areas noted for celebration. We are currently in the process of reviewing the Middle Leaders in the school and this Review has highlighted the great people we have in these positions and the fantastic work they do. There was also our Learning Professional Development, the Resilience Project and student behaviour that staff indicated as areas of growth.
The end of term is also a time that, as individuals, we reflect on our own growth. It is important that as individuals we take time to stop and reflect on our own personal goals and how we are tracking in meeting them.
With some final assessments still ahead, students are expected to continue working and giving their best until the end of the term.
Feast of Corpus Christi
On the weekend the Church celebrated the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ – Corpus Christi. This feast reminds us of the great gift we have as Catholics in the Eucharist. At Nazareth College we are very blessed to have Mass in the College Chapel each Thursday at 8.10 am. This is a fantastic way to start the day and we encourage students to attend the Mass on a Thursday.
Child Safety
With our school growing over the last few years we have seen increasing numbers of both staff and students. We have a process to follow and a number of steps in the process of employing staff for the safety of all children. These steps include, child safety questions at every job interview for our school, Child Safety Modules for all staff to complete before employment, Working With Children Checks, Criminal Record Checks, referee checks and strict child safety checks in every referee conversation.
As we continue to work on always improving in the area of child safety we invite Parents/Guardians/Carers to please contact the Child Safety Team should there be any concerns, issues, questions or suggestions for improvement in this most important area.
As we are all aware, each student in our community is indeed precious. We take the privilege and responsibility of caring for and educating your child and supporting you, as the primary educators of your children, very seriously.
It is with this in mind that we wanted to share an ongoing concern that we have as a staff. We are very concerned watching a number of students getting out of a Parent/Guardian/Carer’s vehicle on Police Road, near the Monash Exit ramp, by the back school gate. With the view to keeping all students in our community safe, we have communicated with the students and Parents/Guardians/Carers to please not drop off your children on this busy road. Please find a safer and more appropriate place for the children to get out of a vehicle near the front of the College, or in the surrounding streets.

As we move towards the break, we wish all families a great, restful and peaceful mid year break.
