Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Guardians and friends of Nazareth

As we approach the last week of Semester 1 2025, I would like to acknowledge all the great work of students, staff and families throughout the year's first half.  Like all other years, it has been extremely busy and we have had many events that have come and gone.  It commenced with our 40th Year Opening of School Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral.  For many of our students, this was their first visit to the Cathedral, and they were in awe.  I applaud their reverence and respect, it was such a significant way to commence the school year and our 40th Year celebrations.

Year 7 students and families were very much the focus in Term 1, as they began their official transition as Nazarenes.  Camps, Fabulous Feb, Reflection Days and simple new routines were all successfully embraced by all the students.  I thank Year 7 families for their support and assistance throughout this semester.

All other year levels have also participated in their Reflection Days, Music Camp, Year 9 camp and other related activities.

All Year 11 and 12 students involved in VCE Unit 3 & 4 subjects and Year 12 VCE-VM have sat the GAT.  This will be a good measuring device for our students in the event that they are unable to sit their final examination and will also be a good pre indication of what they are capable of.

Our Vinnies Ambassadors have successfully raised funds and collected donated food for those less fortunate through the Easter raffle and the Vinnies Winter Appeal.

Abbie Diaz, School Captain, has successfully raised in excess of $2,603 for the Cancer Council.

Throughout Semester 1, 52 students have been involved in the school production.  There were numerous hours of rehearsals and lots of fun, together with the support of parents in ensuring that they were there on time for weekend rehearsals.  This all came to fruition in early June with four successful performances.

This week, we have celebrated the completion of Year 10 and Year 11 exams.  These are essential preparations for the future VCE exams.  Students acquire exam strategies that will assist them in their future exams.

This evening, we are celebrating the Year 12 Formal.  For many students, this event is a highlight of their secondary years of schooling.  I thank Mr Rod Diaz for taking charge of this event, along with all the other Heads of House, Ms Julie Carlin, Events Coordinator, and Ms Jerry Penny, Marketing Manager, along with many of our teaching and support staff.

Finally, after many months of planning, our Year 10 students will conclude the semester with a week's Work Experience placement.  As one can imagine, this has meant that all our Year 10s have had to secure a work placement, do the Health & Safety module and complete related paperwork.  No doubt they will gain many lifelong skills from this experience, which for many may give them a direction in their future vocation.

I thank the Year 10 staff for visiting the students and to Mrs Elena Flodstrom and Ms Theresa Lochery for overseeing their initiative.  They have been well supported by Ms Willow Griffiths, Ms Jackie Ousalkas and Ms Maria Kotsanis.

Scholarships are now open for the 2026 school year.  Please refer to the College webpage for details.  Alternatively, please contact Ms Angie Palmer for further information.  The closing date for applications is Friday 4 July 2025. https://www.nazareth.vic.edu.au/enrolments/scholarships/

In conclusion, I encourage our students to enjoy a well earned rest to ensure they are ready to engage in their learning when they return to school.

Have a wonderful break and may God Bless each of you.

Mr Sam Cosentino

Principal
