Reconciliation Assembly 2025

Seeking a future marked by pilgrimage along song lines of shared destiny and shared kinship as one mob, we held our Reconciliation Assembly for 2025.

We were blessed to receive our brothers from Christian Brothers High School Lewisham who courageously shared culture through dance.

The blessings continued as we learned from Uncle Gumaroy and Uncle Robert through song, dance and poetry. For the first time in 18 years we received a Welcome to Country, which was made possible from Cammeraygal Elder Aunty Jeanie Moran. Their collective wisdom, generosity in sharing culture and contagious passion enveloped our community in the spirit of hope and healing.

With pride we presented the 40 pilgrims departing this Saturday on their Red Dirt Reconciliation Immersion from St Pius X and CBHS Lewisham. May they keep the fire burning.

May we continue to bridge from now to next, from hurt to healing and from ignorance to understanding as we seek a brighter future as one mob.

Sincere gratitude to Ms Marea Soulos, Mr Christian Bell and Mr Blake Griffith from CBHS Lewisham for their inspirational Aboriginal Education Program.

Deep thanks to Uncle Gumaroy, Uncle Robert, Aunty Jeanie and Mr James Bourke for their witness to culture. We keep in our prayers Uncle Morris from Brewarrina who was the elder and guide of our Reconciliation Mural last year as his health recovers at home.

Hope for Freedom Feast

Last weekend it was a privilege to be part of the Hope for Freedom Feast with Our Lady of Dolours Parish Chatswood. The evening was dedicated to raising vital funds and awareness to support the arrival of the refugee family that the parish has sponsored.

The family who originate from Venezuela, and over the last two years have attempted refuge in the Caribbean. They continue to attempt escaping violence and trauma, hunger and lack of medical supplies. They have been identified by the UNHCR and the Australian Home Affairs Department as in urgent need of resettlement. The family consists of a single mother and 3 children, 2 of whom are primary school age.

The parish and its ministry of support has achieved the provision of a house in Chatswood for up to 12 months. Students from St Pius X and Mercy College have been working through the newly established Hub of Hope to support the family with initial items required to help the family’s arrival.

Congratulations to Our Lady of Dolours on such an inspirational initiative.

Red Dirt Immersion

This Saturday the 40 pilgrims from St Pius X College and 10 pilgrims from CBHS Lewisham set out on the Red Dirt Immersion dedicated to Reconciliation and deep learning. Students will experience such deep learning on country and through country, via engagement with local elders, lands councils and local school communities. Deep gratitude is offered to Mr Sam Di Sano for leading this immersion. Please keep them in your prayers as they travel to Western and Northern NSW.

Storytelling to inspire change

At St Pius X College Chatswood, educating young men to make a positive difference in the world is more than a mission - it’s a lived reality. That purpose took creative and courageous form when students participated in Doco in a Day, a national initiative that challenges school teams to plan, film and edit a short documentary  - all within a single day - shining a light on global justice issues.

Two teams from St Pius X rose to the occasion, producing powerful, thought-provoking documentaries that explored the barriers many young people face when trying to access a basic education. Their work was bold, insightful and deeply moving - a testament to the College’s focus on developing respectful, well-rounded young men who engage critically and compassionately with the world around them.

Through their films, St Pius X students aren't just raising awareness, they are also joining a broader movement to support Edmund Rice Foundation, raising funds for education-focused development projects in East and Southern Africa, Timor-Leste, the Philippines and Australia.

By participating in Doco in a Day, students weren’t just learning filmmaking skills - they were living out the Edmund Rice values of solidarity, compassion and liberation.

Real Voices. Real Issues. Real Impact

We are incredibly proud of students for using their voices so powerfully, and for showing what it means to be young men of purpose in today’s world.

Taize Night open to all

This Friday from 6:00 pm - 6:45 pm there will be a Taize evening in the Mercy College Chapel. This is an opportunity for exquisitely beautiful music, prayer, silence and contemplation.
