Kicking Goals and Building Friendships: Mirla shines at SAPSASA Football.Â
Year 6 student Mirla brought energy, skill, and enthusiasm to this year’s SAPSASA football carnival, returning for her second year on the team. Playing in the midfield, Mirla loved the chance to be involved in all areas of the game -running, defending, and scoring goals. “It’s my favourite position because you get to do everything,” she shared with a smile.
Â
Mirla was thrilled to be selected again this year, remembering the fun and team spirit from her previous experience. “I was really excited because last year was good- we all came together, played football, and a fun time.”Â
Â
Mirla also picked up new skills during the week, including shepherding, a strategy she learned by observing teammates and quickly putting it into practice.
Â
Beyond the action on the field, the sense of teamwork and connection was what Mirla enjoyed most. “Getting together with the girls and using lots of teamwork” was, in her words, the most fun part of the carnival. She encourages other students to give SAPSASA a go, saying it’s a great way to “bring lots of relationships and get together with others.”
Â
As for her mindset before big games? Positive thinking plays a key role: “We can win this”- that’s what I tell myself and the team.”
Â
With her passion for the game and a strong sense of sportsmanship, Mirla is already looking forward to future football opportunities and continuing to kick goals- on and off the field.
