Watrer Safety at Brighton Bech

Language Centre

On Thursday 12th June, our Language Centre students and some of our school leaders enjoyed a crisp but sunny morning at Brighton Beach. Led by Life Member at the Brighton Lifesaving Club, Ms Bolton, and current lifesaver Madi Stewart, our students were informed about the dangers around our beaches and other waters, such as rips, and given strategies to help and inform them to keep safe. Many thanks to Henry Fletcher and Vans Thakkur for supporting the presentation and working with the students, as we explored the beach.

After investigating rock pools and picking our favourite beach boxes, students enjoyed some games on the sand, including ultimate frisbee and touch football. It was the students’ last excursion together before they head into mainstream classes next week.

Some feedback from our students:

  • The excursion was a fantastic experience filled with learning and laughter. (Seoyoung)
  • On that day we learned a lot about beach safety. (Otto)
  • I realised I need to be more careful and that there are many things to watch out for at the beach. It was very good time to learn new things. (Beatrice)
  • I learned how to protect myself on the beach. We need to keep away from some animals like jellyfish.  We must swim between the yellow and red flags. (Mark)

  • We played touch football and frisbee throwing game. (Rinne)
