Innovative Lighting Design in Year 11 Product Design & Technology
Year 11 Product Design & Technology
This year, our Year 11 Product Design & Technology students embarked on an exciting design challenge: to create a sustainable LED lamp. Guided by the Double Diamond design process—comprising the stages of Discover, Define, Develop and Deliver—students explored user needs, researched sustainable materials, and generated a wide range of creative solutions.

Through a combination of careful planning and iterative design development, students brought their ideas to life. Each lamp was the result of detailed concept sketches, prototyping, and feedback, culminating in a final product that demonstrated both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

To realise their designs, students utilised a broad range of tools and technologies. From computer-aided design (CAD) to hands-on making, they employed laser cutting, 3D printing, and traditional hand tools to craft their final pieces. This hands-on experience not only strengthened their technical abilities but also deepened their understanding of sustainable design principles and material choices.
