Thoughts from our Principal - Mrs Casey Chard
Welcome to Term 4. It has been a very busy and energising start to the term, filled with professional learning, student achievement and meaningful experiences that reflect the strength of our St Joseph’s community.
Our Staff Professional Learning Day focused on continuing to deepen our understanding of the NSW English and Mathematics syllabus documents and planning for effective implementation. Staff explored resources provided by Armidale Catholic Schools (ACS), including the VCOP and Big Write supports and the Centralised Guided Resources hub - a valuable tool designed to support teachers in targeting instruction for small groups of students and moving them to the next level.
I also shared insights from the Catholic Schools NSW Curriculum Reform Conference, which I attended during the holidays. A key focus was the explicit inclusion of writing across all learning areas, including Creative Arts, HSIE, Science and Technology and PDHPE. Deepening our curriculum knowledge ensures teachers can deliver content at the point of need for each individual learner.
While in Sydney for the conference, I had the pleasure of watching past student Kayden Elliott win gold in both the 1500m and 5000m races at the NSW All Schools Track and Field Championships, breaking the 5000m record - an outstanding achievement and a proud moment for our school. During the Stage 3 Brisbane excursion, I was also delighted to bump into Tahnee Rose, another St Joseph’s graduate, now managing Ben & Jerry’s, who continues to shine as a singer, songwriter and performer after releasing her debut single in 2023. We also celebrate Cadence McShane, who recently received multiple academic and sporting awards, along with the inaugural St Monica’s College ‘Big Sister’ Award, recognising her spirit of light, love and belonging. These successes remind us of the lasting influence of a St Joseph’s education and the many ways our past students continue to make us proud.

On another note, it was a privilege to accompany our Stage 3 students and staff on their Brisbane excursion last week. Although an exhausting few days, our students were outstanding ambassadors for our school, demonstrating manners, respect, kindness and curiosity. They developed new skills in navigating city streets, tackled the puzzles and teamwork tasks of the Hijinx Rooms and participated enthusiastically in the many activities, including their Parliament House tour.
As the term unfolds, I look forward to the many opportunities ahead to celebrate learning, faith and community as we journey toward the end of another successful school year.
May God bless you and your family.
