Selamat Siang,

We started the term with a Special visit from members from our Indonesian Community . Some members of the community performed a dance from Toraja Sulawesi in Indonesia at our Assembly! Terima Kasih to the Kinder for also coming to watch this performance!

Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been up to in class Bahasa Indonesia so far this term!

Foundations: Learning greetings like Selamat Pagi (Good Morning) , Selamat Siang (Good Afternoon), Selamat Sore (Good Evening) and Selamat Malam (Good Night) through songs and actions – so much fun!

1/2s: Exploring Indonesian animals and how to say their names. We’ll be making an animal rap to celebrate!

3/4s: Practicing self-introductions in writing and speaking, getting ready for letters to our penpals in Indonesia!

5/6s: Have completed their Indonesian Cuisine unit! This term we worked on ordering food in Indonesian, creating menus, creating food art and even cooking with a special guest – Bu Yana’s mum, Bu Ningsih. Terima Kasih Bu Ningsih for cooking Mie Goreng for us! What’s next on the menu?

We’ve also been celebrating cultures from around the world as seen in our Harmony Week celebrations! We opened the week with Aira's beautiful South Indian dance performance at Assembly and continued with Harmony Day activities throughout Week 8. We had our first Harmony Day Parade on Friday and I would like to say a huge TERIMA KASIH to all involved - including Brooke T for your incredible parade ideas, Jonny for your support, Parents & Friends for attending, The Performing Arts, Wellbeing and Indonesian leaders for presenting and all of the teachers and ES for your participation and support in this event!

Sampai nanti! (See you soon),

Bu Yana
