A Splash to start the year at St Joseph’s College!

The annual St Joseph’s College Swimming Carnival was held on Tuesday 25 February at our local swimming centre, Mildura Waves. This Carnival always brings together students from Years 7 to 12 for a day of fun, competition, and team spirit. The event showcased a fantastic display of athleticism, teamwork, and mutual support. This year, Chisholm House emerged as the overall winners, demonstrating great performance and determination throughout the day.

Students displayed outstanding enthusiasm and sportsmanship, with a great number of participants taking part in various events. It was heartening to witness both new and experienced swimmers come together, showing that the Swimming Carnival is an event for everyone, regardless of skill level. Highlights were the staff relay race, the Year 12 events and awesome costumes, and some of our students' personal best efforts!

Year 10 Students Gain Hands-On Learning in First Aid and Virtual Work Experience

Over the past few weeks, Year 10 students have been actively engaged in learning essential First Aid skills, equipping them with knowledge that could one day help save lives. Through the use of CPR cubes and simulated emergency scenarios, students practiced the vital steps of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and gained confidence in responding to medical emergencies. This hands-on training provided an invaluable opportunity for students to develop practical, life-saving skills in a controlled environment.

In addition to First Aid training, students also participated in an innovative virtual work experience using RV virtual goggles. This in-class activity allowed them to explore various professional environments and gain insights into different career pathways without leaving the classroom. The immersive technology provided a unique and engaging learning experience, broadening their understanding of the modern workforce and the opportunities available to them in the future.

The combination of these experiences has not only enhanced their practical skill set but has also encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving. With both First Aid training and virtual work experience under their belts, Year 10 students at St Joseph’s College are better prepared for real-world situations, whether in emergency response or career exploration.
