On Wednesday 5 March the College Captains attended the Developing our Young Leaders conference at the Wentworth Visitors Centre. The facilitator for the day was Rod Robinson.

Rod has been working in the field of education, personal improvement, and leadership development since 1986 when he first became a teacher. The aim of the day was to build public speaking and presentation skills amongst young leaders across Sunraysia. It was particularly special for our students to be invited to attend and network with other Sunraysia school leaders including Red Cliffs Secondary College and Coomealla High School.

The students found the day invaluable and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity. Thank you to Dennis McLaughlan from Wentworth Shire Council for arranging the day and Rod for his expertise.

PEER SUPPORT LEADER PROGRAM

Our Year 9 Peer Support Leader Program is off to a great start for 2025. Late last year students nominated to attend a Peer Support Leader training day in preparation for assisting Year 7 students in terms one and two. The aim of the program is for Year 9 students to develop their leadership skills and build confidence in public speaking and presenting.

Our Peer Support Leaders have made a great first impression this term as they attended the Year 7 Community Day on 14 February. Students also elect to be tour guides at the St Joseph’s College Open Evening on Tuesday 18 March and attend the ANZAC Day War Graves ceremony at Nichols Point cemetery on ANZAC Day.

In Term 2 our Year 9 Peer Support Leaders will attend Year 7 core group classes to run short interactive activities with a focus on building strong connections and building resilience.

Students will be presented with their Peer Support Leader badges at the Term 1 College Assembly on Thursday 27 March.

YEAR 7 COMMUNITY DAY

At the beginning of Term 1 we welcomed a new group of Year 7 students to our school community. Our Year 7 Community Day was held at the Mildura Sporting Precinct in Week 3. The purpose of the day was to build community amongst the Year 7 cohort and give students the opportunity to form friendships and build connections with their peers.

Students participated in a range of games and activities throughout the day as a whole year level, in core groups, and in House groups. Students thoroughly enjoyed the day, making the most of the opportunities to use the amazing facilities at the sporting precinct whilst enjoying a BBQ lunch. Some of the highlights from the day included the dance competition, tug-o-war between House groups and the 'Blob Game'. A huge thank-you to the Year 9 Peer Support Leaders who assisted on the day to ensure Year 7 students had an enjoyable time.
