Principal's Address

Hello to all Moonie Families and Community

Week 6 Update

Attendance

While our attendance did drop a little last week, thanks to all the little bugs out there, our average is still outstanding. A reminder to please message the school mobile (0436 948 675) or ring the school to let us know if your child is going to be away.

Leadership News

Well done to Tameera and Caleb on their first event as leaders – Crazy Hair was definitely a hit with many stand out up dos! Our leaders reported that it was a successful day with the first 42 dollars being raised for the end of year celebrations. Look out for their next venture in the coming weeks.

Cross-Country Training

Cross-Country Training has started with a bang as we started our running journey. We have run all the way to Dalby and we are now well on our way to Oakey and beyond. The enthusiasm that they have for reaching each town is amazing. Could we possibly get to Brisbane before the end of the term?

Moonie to Dalby – 114km COMPLETED

Dalby to Oakey – 60kms

Oakey to Toowoomba – 29kms

Toowoomba to Gatton – 38km

Gatton to Ipswich – 60km

Ipswich to Brisbane – 40km

We have had some super runners in both the Upper and Lower School – Congratulations Charlotte H and Nina from K-2 and from 3-6 Caleb, Lincoln, Jack and Justin (just too close to call it!)

Curriculum

Our Year 3-6 students have been working hard across all subjects.

  • English – Students have finished their time with Matilda, wrapping the unit up with the completion of their first short story. We will begin our new novel next week to learn new ways to include language features into our writing to make it more interesting, ready for our assessment in adapting part of a text.
  • Home Reading – It has started this week! Well done to everyone who has completed nights reading this week. Parents if you need you students to have more guidance in the books they are reading please contact me.

Star Lab

It is confirmed – Star Lab is coming to Moonie. There will be two planetarium sessions run. This first with Prep-2 at 5pm and the second at 6pm for Year 3-6. If space permits, younger siblings will be able to join in as well. Following these two sessions, Star Lab will be running a telescope session outside. This session is being run to include families as well and everyone is welcome to join.

Recognition of Positive Learning Behaviours

Since starting at Moonie State School I have been taken back by the students and the learning behaviours they demonstrate. Their ability to work responsibly and independently is a strong and very evident learning trait they all share. In encouragement to continue on this track Year 3-6 are working towards an in-class movie afternoon. We will watch the movie Matilda and be treated to all the cinema extras. When we are a little closer to our 100 points, more details will be shared.

The learning behaviour I will be watching closer this week is, are we on time and ready to learn after each break. At times I am needing to double remind students of equipment they may require for the session. Let’s see if we can do it more promptly this week!

Naplan

NAPLAN window for dates is the 12th – 24th of March. Whilst the writing task will be completed on the first day, the timetable for the remaining tests will be set this week.
