Show Season

Guyra Show

On Friday 21st February, a group of excited students attended the Guyra show.Students tried their hand at judging meat sheep, fleece and cattle, we had quite a few winners! All students spoke with confidence and did themselves (and us) very proud.

Several students also had a go in the paraders class, and though we were up against some very experienced hands and didn't have any wins in this class, we are still very proud of their efforts.

On Saturday, our paraders helped to achieve wins in the Devon classes. It was also the first official outing for our new show team shirts, the feedback was that we looked pretty snazzy!

Student Success at Inverell Show

A big congratulations to Logan Scott who competed at the Inverell show Friday 28th February and Saturday 1st March. He presented his own stud and had much success. On Friday he placed 3rd in the 12-18 years junior judging before going on to win the 14 years paraders class and then taking overall grand champion junior parader. Saturday saw Logan taking out reserve champions senior for his hereford female.

What a great success Logan!

Armidale Show

Last Friday, a large group of students made the long journey across the road to the Armidale Show.

Students tried their judging skills in meat and merino sheep, cattle and fruit and veggies.

We had a few winners who did themselves and OCC proud:

  • Montanna Dodd - 3rd senior meat sheep
  • Amber Press - 4th intermediate meat sheep
  • Baxter Clark - 1st junior merino sheep
  • Alistar Sabry - 3rd intermediate stud beef
  • Sam Person - 5th junior stud beef
  • Georgia Hoey - 4th fruit and veg

OCC also came 3rd in the Interschool competition with our team of Ollie Starr, Montanna Dodd and Shyan Dodd.

We also had many students leading cattle on both Friday and Saturday. For some, this was their first time leading cattle in a competition and they handled themselves very well.

On Saturday, we took out the Devon section, with Dom Miller, Ollie Starr, Isaac Brown, Ben Cox, Amber Press, Charlotte Haycock, Clair Bliss and Lucy Kelly all doing a fantastic job.

Many of our students were there with their own families or participating in other activities, which goes to show how involved our students are with community events and how passionate they are about their interests.

One more to go, bring on the Walcha Show!

A big thanks to Miss Laura Phillips and Mr Josh Tout, for ensuring our students get a chance to show and compete every year!
