Facilities Update

Further to my Compass notice last year, we are working closely with the North East Victoria Region office of the Department of Education and Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) to prepare for the redistribution of some of the relocatable classrooms that are surplus to our needs. We understand the need for these classrooms to be redistributed to other schools in some of the state’s growth corridors to ensure those students have the required learning spaces. The classrooms being removed are the classrooms located alongside Gallaghers Road and the classrooms closest to the prep playground. It is important to note that we have retained more classrooms than we require to run our programs. Our student’s learning has not been impacted.

I can also advise that we have been successful in our request for additional toilets, and these will be installed where the current flying fox is located. The flying fox will be reinstalled in a yet to be determined play area of the school.

Our students have settled into their new classrooms for the year, and I believe that the relocatables will be removed during the Term 1 school holidays. We will then work closely with staff, students and the parent community to develop a plan for this space which might include outdoor learning spaces, a sandpit, play areas or a sensory garden.

I want to reassure you that I am satisfied with the school’s decision so that we can prioritise the continued learning and wellbeing of our students. In tabling my report at the school council, it was pleasing that there was strong affirmation of our planning for this adjustment.

Hearing Awareness Week

This week is Hearing Awareness Week which is a time to celebrate inclusivity and raise awareness about hearing loss. At Mount View Primary School, we are incredibly proud of the outstanding education we provide through our Deaf Facility, ensuring that all students can thrive. Our dedicated Teachers of the Deaf bring expertise, care, and commitment to supporting our students, fostering both academic success and a strong sense of belonging. This week, we acknowledge their incredible work and reaffirm our commitment to an inclusive learning environment where every child is valued. I also acknowledge every member of our staff team for the work they do to support our students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Unlocking Potential Internship

The Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership Unlocking Potential: Principal Preparation program is designed for aspiring Victorian Government principals. Robyn Mowat is Assistant Principal at Lysterfield Primary School, and I am her principal mentor for the program and Robyn will be joining the Leadership Team at Mount View from 11 March until 4 April for the internship element of the program.
