Principal Report

On Tuesday, 11th March 2025, our entire staff participated in a full-day professional development session, marking another significant step in our commitment to embedding the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program at Rochester Secondary College. This program shares links and key ideas with our partnership with Real Schools, an initiative that continues to shape our approach to student relationships, behaviour, and school culture.

School Wide Positive Behavior Support (SWPBS) is an evidence-based framework designed to help schools create positive, safe, and fair settings where students and teachers can thrive. It focuses on teaching and encouraging positive behaviour, supporting all students. By doing this, SWPBS helps improve behaviour, wellbeing, and academic success.

The Rochester Lions Club recently hosted the Lion’s Youth of the Year. Our School Captains Letisha Mountjoy, Jordy Rasmussen, Payton Tiller and Oakley Tarrant all participated in the contest, and all did an excellent job, speaking very well about a number of different topics. Congratulations to Oakley who was judged as the winner and will represent the school as well as the Rochester Lions Club at the next stage of the competition. We are very proud of the efforts of all four students as it was a very tight contest with high quality presentations. Hedley Moon from Rochester Lions Club who oversaw the competition recognised all four students efforts at our most recent whole school assembly.

Student in Years 7 and 9 are currently participating in NAPLAN testing which occurs from March 12 – 24. This is an Australia wide Literacy and Numeracy testing program. These tests cover a large range of areas in numeracy and literacy and provide schools with general data trends. Parents receive a copy of results later this year, which include an indication of how their child has performed in the tests. Further information about NAPLAN testing may be found on the NAPLAN website at www.naplan.edu.au
