From the Principal

Dear Parents,
Today in Chapel, I spoke to the students about something I’ve noticed in the first month of school.
Each day, a considerable amount of lost property is handed in—water bottles, lunch boxes, and other personal items that students forget to keep track of. Just last week, I even came across two merit awards, thoughtfully written by our staff, left on the ground outside.
It seems many of our students are struggling to keep track of their belongings. I would understand if it was just our Kindergarten students but it seems to be a school wide problem. While this is a common challenge for all children, it’s also an opportunity for both home and school to teach responsibility and stewardship.
As parents, there are a few simple steps we can take to help at home:
✔ Label everything with your child’s name.
✔ Encourage habits at home that promote responsibility.
✔ Regularly check in with your child about their belongings.
Having a system at home for where things go—like a designated spot for their lunchbox and water bottle—can make a big difference.
Teaching children that replacing lost items isn’t automatic is also important. It’s essential to explain that if they lose their hat, the consequence may be that they won’t be able to play in the sun at lunchtimes. Allowing them to experience an age-appropriate struggle for a few days—rather than immediately buying a new hat—can be a valuable lesson.
When we explain the cost of replacing belongings and set clear expectations around responsibility, we help students develop a greater appreciation for looking after their things. Our staff spends long periods of time searching for lunch boxes, water bottles, and other personal items, which takes valuable time away from their other important responsibilities.
Next Week
I will be away from Wednesday to Friday attending the CSA Principals Conference. Staying informed about developments at a broader level is essential as Christian Schooling continues to face much opposition and challenge. In my absence, Mrs. Davila will be leading the school.
Good Luck to Our Zone Swimmers!
Best of luck to our 14 amazing swimmers representing HopePoint at the CSSA Swimming Carnival next Friday! Wishing you all the very best—we’re cheering you on!
My door is always open.
