Principal, Ms Alex Montgomery

We have had a wonderful and positive start to Term 2, with students quickly settling back into routines and classrooms filled with enthusiasm for learning. We look forward to a fulfiling term ahead, maintaining our focus on supporting the growth and progress of every child—emotionally, socially, and academically.
This term also brings many special opportunities for our school community to come together and celebrate. These include recognising our wonderful mums, aunties, grandparents, and significant family members; enjoying events such as Star Struck; and participating in the many occasions that strengthen the connection between home and school. We are excited for another rewarding term of learning, celebration, and community at Edgeworth Public School.
Introducing Stella, Our School Support Officer (SSO)
We are pleased to share that Stella, our School Support Officer (SSO), is now working at Edgeworth Public School five days a week, providing increased support for our students, families, and staff. This expanded role strengthens our commitment to student wellbeing and creates additional opportunities to support students socially and emotionally as they learn and grow.
Stella works alongside students, staff, families, and community organisations to promote safety, resilience, positive relationships, and pro-social behaviours. Through classroom support, playground engagement, small group work, and transition assistance, Stella will play an important role in helping students feel connected, supported, and successful at school.
We look forward to sharing the initiatives and programs Stella will introduce across our school community and the positive impact this role will have in further strengthening student wellbeing at Edgeworth Public School.
A Thriving Term Across All Domains of Learning
This term, our students are engaging in a wide range of enriching opportunities across the academic, social-emotional, physical, and creative domains of learning, aligned with the Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) policy. Through targeted programs, enrichment activities, and authentic student voice, we are committed to identifying and nurturing students’ strengths, talents, and potential across all four domains, ensuring every learner is challenged, supported, and inspired to thrive.
In the academic domain, we are excited to have 30 students from Years 5 and 6 participating in the Maths Olympiad, challenging themselves through complex mathematical thinking and problem-solving. We have also begun targeted mathematics withdrawal groups for identified students in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6, focusing on rich tasks and deep problem-solving experiences. These students have been identified through our Learning and Support processes to further extend and strengthen their mathematical understanding. Additionally, students in Years 3–6 will have the opportunity to participate in the Premier’s Spelling Bee, a fantastic initiative through the Department of Education that celebrates vocabulary, spelling, and language development.
In the social domain, our Student Representative Council (SRC) has been actively meeting to provide feedback on playground initiatives and is currently seeking student input on ways to further support students in developing positive strategies to solve social challenges in the playground.
In the physical domain, students are building their skills, confidence, and teamwork as they prepare for our upcoming Athletics Carnival, while in the creative domain, students are proudly participating in the Sam Lewis Peace Prize, using their creativity to explore themes of peace, reflection, and community.
These opportunities reflect our commitment to nurturing the whole child and providing meaningful experiences that support every student to grow, achieve, and thrive.
Thank you Sue

Her unwavering commitment ensures every child starts the day with a full stomach and a sense of belonging, supporting their wellbeing, engagement, and learning. Sue creates a warm, inclusive environment where all students are treated with kindness, dignity, and respect.
