Principal's Report
- Tania Sorbello
As we approach the end of our first term of 2025, I would like to thank all of our staff and members of the school community for your support and positive energy throughout what has been a productive and settled term.
I would like to say a huge thank you to the army of volunteers who help around FNPS. From excursions, to reading support, to swimming programs and carnivals, to Working Bees, this term has been abundant with opportunities for our community to be involved in the children’s educational experience. Each and every one of you make FNPS better with your involvement and we can’t thank you enough for your contribution to making our school a great place to learn, play and work.
A reminder that we have an early finish of 2:30pm this Thursday 2nd April leading into the Term 1 holiday period.
In an effort to strengthen and streamline morning transitions into classrooms, beginning next term we will be making some adjustments to our current routines.
At present, classrooms open at 8:50am; however, we have observed that only around half of our students enter at this time, with many continuing to play outside. From the beginning of next term, students may continue to arrive at school from 8:45am, with at least two members of the leadership team on yard duty between 8:45am and 9:00am.
The key change is that all students will remain in the yard until 8:57am. Upon the commencement of the music, they will line up outside their classrooms, similar to the routines at the end of recess and lunch, and teachers will collect their classes and walk them inside once the bell sounds.
This approach is designed to support a calmer, more consistent start to the day, allowing teachers to complete final preparations while also providing a structured and supported transition into the classroom for all students.
Please note that during inclement weather, as has always been the case, an announcement will be made and students will be permitted to enter classrooms earlier.
We are incredibly excited to officially open our newly redeveloped Fergie Street frontage this week; a transformation that has taken the space from drab to fab! As part of a 2025 International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme inquiry project, our Year 5 and 6 students played a central role in designing the landscape, bringing their ideas to life through the creation of vibrant senior outdoor learning spaces, including a dedicated outdoor art classroom. Students also had the opportunity to meet with the landscaper, providing feedback on initial designs to ensure their vision was fully realised in the final outcome.
A particularly special feature of this space is the timber used in the benches and drafting tables, which has been milled and repurposed from the 100-year-old spotted gum tree that was felled during the 2022 building project. It is wonderful that we have been able to preserve, honour and reimagine this important part of our school’s history in such a meaningful and lasting way.
This project is a powerful example of student voice and agency in action, and we are so proud of what has been achieved. A sincere thank you to RB Landscapes for their outstanding work in both designing and delivering this space, continuing their great partnership with the school following the Junior Playground project.
