2024 Spring Concert, a Resounding Success

Last week’s Spring Concert was a night to remember, showcasing the incredible musical talent of our students. Over 350 students from 16 different ensembles took to the stage to deliver a breathtaking performance.

One of the many highlights of the evening was the collaboration between national and state champion Highland Dancer, Emily T, and the Symphony Orchestra. Emily's graceful moves perfectly complemented the Scottish tunes played by the orchestra.

The exquisite performance by Senior Strings, composed and conducted by music staff member Mr Mirko Guerrini, entitled "Prima della Pioggia" (Before the Rain), was a particular highlight.

The Senior Choir, comprising 200 students (a new record!), filled the PAC stage and sang with a united powerful voice in delightful 4-part harmony. Midpoint in the concert 40 Year 12 choir and ensemble students were recognised for their outstanding contributions, each receiving a ‘Musician of the Year’ keepsake mug as a token of appreciation for the many years of dedicated service to music at Huntingtower. Our Music Captains, MCs for the evening, did an exceptional job in guiding the audience through the program.

Behind the scenes, the technical support provided by Aaron Fabrikant and Troy Jansen was invaluable, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable performance for all.

The Spring Concert was a resounding success, celebrating the dedication and hard work of our students and staff. It was a night filled with music, joy, and community spirit.

2025 Ensembles Have Started!

Given that we lose our Year 12 students to the world of VCE Exams, we have taken the decision to commence our 2025 versions of our ensembles, starting next term. The Year 12s are still welcome to come along for fun, however, to get a good head start on next year’s repertoire, it’s a good time to have each year level step up into their new positions or ensembles.

HT Carols are coming soon!

In conjunction with the Huntingtower P&F, plans are underway to again present a joyous night of Christmas music and community carolling on the evening of Thursday 28 November. The MS Choir will support the singing, with an orchestra made up of our amazing Year 7 to Year 12 instrumentalists.

Trombone Time! (Special Offer)

Whilst the growth across the instrument families within the ensembles at Huntingtower has been noticeable and plentiful, one instrument is sadly being underrepresented! Perhaps the coolest of all instruments is the Trombone, and we urgently need more players of the trombone at Huntingtower. A versatile and easy-to-learn instrument, it features exciting music to play in our Concert Bands, Symphony Orchestra, Pit Orchestra and Big Band playing a huge variety of styles from classical to jazz to pop. It contributes valuably to the middle sounds of these ensembles.

It is a good instrument for students who play piano or another instrument and were wondering what instrument they could play to get into one or more of our amazing instrumental ensembles. The music presents in bass clef, and there are only seven slide positions to learn, of which three of them are only used for one or two notes. It is relatively light to carry around and super fun to play. Students of any age from Year 4 through to Year 11 could successfully and quickly learn it.

As an incentive, the Music Centre is offering free instrument hire for 12 months when a student commences 12 months of private tuition. If your son or daughter is interested in a free tryout, please contact or visit Mr Mowat anytime soon.
