Year 3-4
Wawa, Wumindjika
Hello, Welcome (in Taungurung)
The weeks are just flying by, it's hard to believe that we are heading into November at the end of this week! So many wonderful things still to come this term.
It was wonderful to see so many children put their talents on display in the Pavilion for the Euroa Show on Saturday. A big congratulations to those of you who won a ribbon or special mention. Thank you to Mrs Watson and Lisa Crowe for the beautiful display of our artwork so that we can all see what the children have been up to throughout the year in Art.
Camp is fast approaching on 20th and 21st November 2024.
You have now received the camp permission pack. Thank you for your prompt completion and return of these forms.
Just a reminder that they are now due, for those of you yet to return the forms.
Also please let us know ASAP if your child has a particular dietary requirement, for catering purposes.
Here is a copy of the information and packing list in case you have misplaced it.
For families that usually have a Program Support Group meeting, please keep an eye out for communication from Bek as these meetings will be held in Week 6.
Don't forget to let grandparents and special friends know about our celebration on Thursday morning beginning at 9.10am in the Mercy Centre!
We have been focusing on Empathy and Mindfulness in the past few weeks. Here are some GEM Chats you could have at home.
Make time in your afternoon or evening to check in with your child. It is a great opportunity to connect with them and validate their feelings.
This term, we kicked off our literacy journey by diving into informative writing, exploring various travel destinations and what you could do there. Students had the opportunity to express their creativity while learning how to convey information clearly and engagingly.
Building on that foundation, we then shifted to procedure writing with a fun hands-on activity: making Vegemite sandwiches and paper hats. This experience emphasised the importance of crafting clear and concise instructions. Students discovered how effective communication is crucial in ensuring that others can successfully follow their directions. Together, these activities have enriched the students' understanding of both procedural and informative writing.
Our reading block continues to have a strong focus on linking reading and writing. We have read many different types of blogs, from sporting to cooking, travel and peoples general hobbies. Blogging is not new but something the students had not had much exposure to. We continue to nurture a love of reading by allowing a 20 minute solid reading time in class where students choose their own text.
There are a number of outstanding library books. Students are pretty good at knowing where they are. Could you please ensure that any books that are floating around the home be returned promptly to enable other students to borrow them and it makes Dee's job easier if she doesn't have to chase up their whereabouts. Thanks!
We continue with our weekly spelling practice and take home words. We encourage all students to practise their list words each night.
We have just completed our Multiplicative thinking focus over the past 3+ weeks. We will continue to embed the strategies learned into our everyday numeracy lessons. We now look at Location and mapping and Measurement (mass and capacity).
Michael Minas is a teacher and wonderful mathematician. We love 'Love Maths' at school and they are very accessible games for your enjoyment, as a family at home.
On Tuesday 22nd October, the University of Newcastle's Science, Maths, and Real Technology (SMART) group visited our school to present an exciting science incursion focused on the forces of pushing and pulling. The students were actively involved in hands-on experiments that demonstrated these forces in action. Using real-world examples, the SMART team showed how pushing and pulling affect the movement of different objects, incorporating various materials and equipment to engage the students. The interactive nature of the experiments allowed everyone to experience firsthand how force can change the speed, direction, and shape of objects. It was an educational and fun experience that brought the science of forces to life!
In RE we have been focusing on serving others. Students researched community groups that reach out and support people and animals in our own communities and on the global scale. Some of these included; Ronald McDonald House Charities, People Supporting People Shepparton, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Canteen, RSPCA etc. Students tied their learning together and created their own charity and described how they would reach out and serve others.
Imani joins us from WA. She is in Miss Ally's Class and has settled in beautifully to St. John's.
Until Next time,
Ally, Rachel, Lisa, Keira and Nic
