Welcome Mrs Ramsden

With Mrs Robinson stepping into the Curriculum Leader position, we welcome Mrs Ramsden into the Year 1/2 area. Mrs Ramsden has had a great start to the term and has really enjoyed reconnecting with her previous Foundation students.

Grandparent/Special friends Morning

Don't forget that we have Grandparents/Special friends Morning this Thursday 31st October. Beginning at 9am with a Liturgy in the Mercy Centre, Grandparents and special friends will then be invited back to visit in the classrooms. We will have some little activities and games to share, time to chat, and then the visitors, not the students,  will leave around 10am.

Wellbeing Day

We had a wonderful day on the 13th of September, wearing our pj's to school. It was great fun to learn more about our emotional health and the importance of getting enough sleep each night. Thank you to our Year 6 leaders who led us through our afternoon activities about being a good friend and to our parents and friends who joined us for the afternoon session.

Reconciliation

Congratulations Emily, Lenny, Lucy, Jed, Chelsea and Hannah for taking your sacrament of Reconciliation. We hope you enjoyed your special day.

Footy Day

Literacy

We've immersed ourselves in information texts over the last few weeks. We've thoroughly enjoyed learning about a variety of animals through reading information books. We know that information books tell us factual information about a topic, have pictures and diagrams to help us understand the written information. Some information books even have a glossary to help us with the meaning of tricky words.

Did you know...

Wombats have cube shaped poo.

There are 2 toed and 3 toed sloths.

Blue tongue lizard's tongue is blue to warn predators they might be toxic to eat.

The frills around an axolotl's head are it's gills.

Within our literacy block we also use games to assist with our learning to help consolidate new knowledge. We have several different tasks and students spend 7 minutes at each station, giving them a go at each one. The children love these literacy games, they are a fun and interactive way of learning.

Numeracy

We've been working hard on our multiplicative thinking and exploring how we can divide whole numbers equally. Check out our city scapes where we have shown arrays. You will see we've been using sentences to describe our arrays, such as 3 groups of 4 makes 12.

Religion

Students have been investigating the different stories of Jesus in the Gospels. One particular story we've looked into is from Mark's Gospel which Jesus heals the blind man. Through this we've learnt that Jesus has performed many miracles to heal people.

Inquiry

Throughout term 4 students learnt how to describe the weather and the seasons. They investigated the concept that different places have different weather patterns and explore how we monitor and report on different weather types collecting and collating data using concrete materials in engaging hands on activities. We've enjoyed being meteorologists and predicting weather changes based on clues such as grey clouds, warm or cold breezes, bright or dull mornings, and Miss King's aching joints.

Science Incursion

In week 3 we were lucky enough to participate in a science incursion. The wonderful people from SMART (Science Maths And Real Technology) taught us about push - pull and force through many hands on interactive activities. The students loved the incursion and were fully immersed in the science experience. So much fun and learning at the same time, it was a great session.

Uniform - Lost Property

As the weather warms up, the students are beginning to take off their jumpers during the breaks. We have been working on looking after our belongings, but... the Lost Property basket is full of unnamed and unloved clothing. Can you please make sure all removable items of clothing are names so they can be returned to the rightful owner.
