Welcome back to Term Four!
In Catholic tradition, the entire month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. This month-long observance is largely due to the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, celebrated on 7 October.
On 7 October , in the year 1571, Don Juan of Austria gained his famous naval victory over the Turks at Lepanto. In thanksgiving for this event, which he attributed to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin through the recitation of the Holy Rosary, St Pius V instituted an annual feast under the title of Our Lady of Victory. His immediate successor, Gregory XIII, changed the title to that of the Rosary, and granted its Office to all churches in which there was an altar dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. In 1961, the title of this feast became: Our Lady of the Rosary.
The best way to celebrate this Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is, of course, to pray the rosary daily during the month.
Last term our Year Three students began preparations to soon participate in their first Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is a beautiful Sacrament, instituted by Christ as a way to offer us His Mercy and Grace. It is a very special time for our students and, along with you, their parents, it’s our responsibility to help prepare them for this Sacrament.
This week, the students brought notes home explaining the upcoming Sacrament of Reconciliation Presentation Mass, where they will be presented to the parish community and the Rite of Commitment. We ask that this please be signed and returned prior to Friday 18 October 2024.
Please also note that a Family Faith Formation evening for parents and students will be held at school on Wednesday 23 October at 6:30pm. If your child is not participating in the Sacrament celebration, or you are unable to attend the Faith Formation evening, could you please email your child's classroom teacher.
We look forward to these next steps in their preparations.
