Laura Higgins
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we wrap up Term 3, it’s time to reflect on our Senior School students' incredible events, achievements, and efforts over the past few weeks. It’s been a massive term (when isn’t it), and we are all looking forward to a break (except our year twelves about to start exams – it’s on!)
Christmas in July
Our Senior School students had a blast at our Christmas in July celebration! Santa paid a special visit, delivering presents to those who made it onto the nice list. Students enjoyed festive activities like colouring in, and the halls were filled with the sound of Christmas carols, bringing a touch of mid-year cheer to everyone.
ABCN Interview to Impress at KPMG
A group of our senior students had the incredible opportunity to participate in the ABCN Interview to Impress program at KPMG. This invaluable experience allowed them to polish their interview skills and learn from industry professionals, gaining confidence for their future careers.
Model UN
A special congratulations to Pippa Campbell, Maxine Green, Marcus Harwood, Austin Armstrong, Zara Liiv, and Taylor Carlisle for representing Western Port Secondary College at the Model UN, hosted by Dromana Secondary College. Alongside students from schools across the Mornington Peninsula, they were tasked with discussing a United Nations movement on refugees and asylum seekers. They researched, developed policies, created resolutions, debated, and voted on solutions. Western Port Secondary College students led the charge, with their policies being overwhelmingly supported by other countries—a fantastic display of leadership and diplomacy!
Year 10 Work Experience
A big shoutout to our Year 10 students for completing their work experience! Nearly 60 students ventured out into the community, gaining real-world skills at a variety of amazing places, including Mornington Peninsula Shirt, animal shelters, Bunnings, KidzShed, working with builders, plumbers, Hastings VET, primary schools, and ICT firms.
We’re incredibly proud of their dedication and the valuable experience they’ve gained!
Year 12 Practice Exams
Our Year 12 practice exams were a huge success, with some being externally marked. This provided invaluable feedback for students as they prepare for their final assessments. Next term, it’s the turn of Year 10 and Year 11 students as they gear up for their exams.
Chess Tournament
Congratulations to Tristan Kraulis for winning the chess tournament in a thrilling final against Austin Armstrong! A big thank you to Mr. Gillespie for organizing this event! Bring on the rematch in Term 4!
Volunteering & Volunteering Morning Tea
We had an inspiring day celebrating the power of volunteering and the amazing community partnerships we’ve built! Students shared their volunteering experiences with local organisations like Regenerate, MSFIN, and Landcare, and it was heartwarming to hear the impact they’ve had.
A huge thank you to Bendigo Bank Balnarring District Community Bank for their generous donation of $3,000 toward transport for our volunteers and an additional $6,000 to support Senior School scholarships. Together, we’re building a brighter future for all!
