This Thursday marks R U OK? Day, a national initiative promoting mental health awareness and reminding us that a simple are you okay?could change a life. Whilst the National Day of Action is September 12, our College has supported this initiative with activities organised by our Year 8 students. A special highlight was Wednesday’s whole-school event, where we gathered on the oval to create the ‘SHINE’ drone photo.

Activities that were held during the week included:

  • Monday – Red Rover and Feeling Faces (art and craft)
  • Tuesday – Travelling Gratitude and Joke Jar and Group Animal Drawings
  • Wednesday – Dodgeball and the Cheerful Bucket Challenge

Term 3 has been a whirlwind of events, assessments and activities, and we are sure everyone is looking forward to a well-earned rest over the holidays. We began the term with NAIDOC Week, offering our community a range of experiences, including a smoking ceremony and an assembly. We then had Faith Week, an incredible week full of activities centred around the idea of 'Alive and Active Faith'. Science Week and Book Week were also standout events in Term 3, giving the entire Secondary School the chance to engage in science activities and dress up as their favourite book characters.

One highlight that we are sure will mark Term 3 of 2024 forever in our memories is the unforgettable excitement surrounding the Paris Olympics and Paralympics. From livestreams played by Mrs Smith in the LRC to the flag paintings outside the Sport Department, there was a buzz across the school throughout the four weeks of competition. Let the Olympic spirit inspire us to continue striving for our best as we enter the final stretch of the year!

The term was filled with incredible experiences for our musician students. We had the privilege of hosting our Opus 3 concert at Saint Andrew's Uniting Church, which was a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved. We are already looking forward to returning next year! Another unforgettable moment was On the Green, featuring the talented Kate-Miller Heidke as the headline performer. Our musicians had the wonderful opportunity to workshop with her and perform together on the day - an experience they will surely never forget.

Congratulations to all the incredible Winter Fixture athletes, we had a fantastic term full of incredible results. Shout out to the Senior A Hockey team and the 9B Volleyball team on winning their premierships!

To wrap up the term, we headed out to QSAC for the annual QGSSSA Track and Field Championships. We are so proud of our athletes. The dedication, perseverance, and passion they have shown during trainings and Friday night meets has demonstrated the incredible things we can achieve when we push ourselves. Each and every Clayfield College athlete SHINED at the competition.
