Parking Around the school
All schools across metropolitan Victoria have issues with parking around schools. There are a range of strategies in place to support families and to ensure that children arrive safely at school.
Kiss and Drop Zone - 8:00 - 9:15
There are four Kiss and Drop places on Panfield Ave. You are able to leave your car and assist your child to put on their school bag, but the child must then walk into school by themselves. This zone does not exist in the afternoon.
One-way Agreement
In order to have a continuous flow of traffic we encourage drivers to take a one way attitude in the morning and drive up Panfield Road hill, rather than coming down. If a parking space cannot be found, then the driver, does a loop around via Wonga Road, Byron Street and Mullum Mullum Road, back up Panfield and tries again.
U-Turns
Pulling into driveways of our school neighbours is not a safe option for any child arriving at school. Keeping driveways clear for neighbours to access the roads and footpaths clear for children to travel along.
Walking
Walking to and from school is not only good for you and your family, but also for the environment and reducing traffic congestion. All of the roads leading to our school have pedestrian crossings that are supervised by Maroondah City Council employees. These operate from 8-9am and 3-4pm each day. This provides safe access for all students and parents. Please take the time to teach your child to use the crossing correctly and as a parent model this behaviour for them.
Riding/scootering to school
As recommended by Bike Victoria students over the age of 10 have enough road sense and peripheral vision to be able to ride unaccompanied. All riders are required to wear a safety helmet. We have a large bike rack at school where bikes and scooters can be stored during the school day. Students under 10 years of age, can travel to school by bike or scooter, when supported by a parent or carer.
