Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Term 1 STEM

This year, students at Holy Family School have been delving into the wonderful world of  Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM is a weekly specialist subject where students are challenged to use their critical thinking skills to work collaboratively and solve problems.

So far, the students have…

  • explored different kinds of scientists (they’re not always men in lab coats!)
  • built rollercoasters using straws, BluTack and ping pong balls!
  • attempted to build the strongest bridge possible using cardboard and tape (testing our hypotheses using weights!)
  • designed and constructed towers using only paper!

Throughout these learning experiences, the students have been working through the design process to:

define the problem, explore, design, make a prototype, test and evaluate.

We look forward to seeing where our journey takes us next!
