Setting up a prayer space at home

Dear Families,

As we prepare for Easter with the season of Lent, we have been encouraging the students to think about preparing their hearts by focusing on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

Here are some ideas for how you could do this together as a family:

Prayer: Prayer is talking to God.

During Lent, we can pray to thank God for our blessings, ask for guidance or share our hopes and dreams.

Encourage children to set aside time each day for prayer by praying either silently, out loud, or even drawing pictures to express their prayers. Each child has made a prayer bag for home with traditional prayers that you could pray together as a family.

Fasting: Fasting means giving up something we enjoy for a little while to remind us of Jesus's sacrifice for us.

For children this might mean giving up a favourite treat like lollies, TV time, or video games during Lent.

Almsgiving: Almsgiving is sharing what we have with others who need it.

This could be donating money to charity, giving toys or clothes to those in need, or doing kind things for others. We have Project Compassion money boxes in each classroom so that children can donate any spare change that they have to support the poor.

As we continue this journey through Lent talk to your children about the importance of helping others and showing them ways that they can 'Be the Light' and make a difference, in the world.
