Term 1, Week 4

Year 6 students attended the GRIP leadership conference on Monday 12th February at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. It was a wonderful day, full of fun, laughter, and learning. Students re-engaged back at St Brigid’s in some exciting leadership sessions, and are all ready to implement their new initiatives. Such inspirational and creative thinkers. Stay tuned and watch this space.

We wish to acknowledge and celebrate two past St Brigid’s students who have achieved ATARs that placed them in the top ten students of the year for VCE at Sacred Heart, Neivh Almond, and Eva Vella.

Macedon Ranges Primary Principals met with Salesian College Principal Mark Brockhurst and received a tour and invitation to use Salesian’s new STEAM center. It has state-of-the-art technology and boasts a sound, film, and music studio. I am sure our Media leaders would love to shoot an SBN there. Digi Tech Daniel is attending the opening of the building, ready to set some wheels in motion for offsite experiences for our students. Mark congratulated us on our student's transition to high school plans, as students have settled well and found new routines quickly.

Exciting news! St Brigid’s School has been blessed by an ex-student John Walsh. John was a student, Altar Boy and Angelus Bell Ringer in the 50’s at St B’s and attended school with Chek’s mum, and Miss Turner’s Nana and Pa. Leanne’s family also knew John’s family through St Brigid’s. John moved to Ohio, USA and was a pilot. He recently passed away, and bequeathed St Brigid’s School with USD 40,000. We are currently working with students to develop a plan for a legacy item using this money. We truly have been blessed, and remain so very thankful for this kind and generous donation to our beautiful little school. There is something so unique and special about St B’s, the connections, the history, and love, continue beyond the gates, and across the seas.

Georgina in Juniors is taking part in the Startford Pony Club Interschool Equestrian Challenge next Wednesday, 21 February. The event is a State Interschool Qualifier and if Georgina qualifies she will represent St Brigid’s at the State Interschool Championships held at our National Equestrian Centre over the Easter school holidays.

Congratulations to Mick Day, our extraordinary Education Support Officer, who won “Student of the Year: Community” at Bendigo TAFE’s Industry Excellence Awards last night. This is awarded to the top students in community courses such as childcare, education, nursing, justice, disability, and other similar courses. Mick completed his 100 placement hours with us at St B’s in 2023 and is now employed as education support in our Years 3 to 6 learning spaces.

MACS commissioning mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral welcomed our amazing graduates Nadine, Luke and Perri to catholic education. We are blessed with their unique gifts and talents, and the energy and positivity they bring.

It was lovely to see Salesian principal Mark Brockhus, side by side with his past students Luke and Perri as they begin their next educational chapter.

Mornings

Please note that staff are not on duty until 8:30am, which means students dropped off early are not supervised. When dropping students off at school, please do not leave your car when using the front parking, parallel parking is available for those who wish to walk their children inside.

Learning spaces open at 8.30am, and meditation begins at 8.50am. In order to minimise disruption to morning routines, students who are not in their learning space by 8.50am will be required to wait and reflect in the office foyer until prayer and mediation have been completed, which is approximately 9.05am. We thank you for your support in helping us create a calm, consistent morning routine, setting all students up for success.

Hats

All students need to wear school hats when engaging in activities outside. Please ensure your child has their hat in their bag each day, or they may leave it in their tubs at school. Any child without a hat will need to remain in the shaded areas.
