PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

How quickly the term starts to fly once it’s started!

As mentioned previously, we are working hard to tighten the parameters around our traffic flow at the Activity Centre carpark to ensure safety for all our students. Please note the after school pick up procedures have added to the newsletter again today. It’s vital that parents refrain from driving into the staff section along the school side of the carpark, and that the drop off/pick up zone keeps moving. Please don’t park your car in these spaces. Keep in mind that we do have space at the Tea Tree Lake exit and the front office carpark.

Our first big sporting event, the house swimming carnival, was a great success. We had a fabulous day of friendly and supportive competition with many students going above and beyond to do the best they could for their house. Thanks to everyone who came along to watch and to help organise, especially the Parent’s Association who cooked the BBQ for us.

The next event on the calendar is the inter school swim sports here at Mortlake this Friday. Spectators are most welcome. Hot on the heels of swimming, we have our house athletics. This year we are trialing a new idea by running our sports at Brauerander Park. This will give our students the experience of running on a professional athletics track etc. All students and teachers will attend the sports, with the younger students returning to school a little earlier. Notes have gone home for anyone who would like to accompany us on the buses. Please get those back asap so that we can plan accordingly.

Our student leadership team is taking shape with P-6 Class Captains awarded at assembly earlier in the term and the last of our senior team positions filled today. This team will be recognised at a special assembly- the date to be announced via Sentral this week.

Parent/teacher interviews have been set for the March 25th from 11am – 6pm. There will be no classes on that day. 10 minute booking slots will be available on Sentral soon.

Our new School Council will be elected in March. We have several vacancies for parents. Please consider nominating for this group or nominating someone else who you think could make a contribution. It is not an onerous task, (one hour long meeting per month), but a vital one for the operation of the school and it is a great opportunity to have a say in decisions that affect your child. Nomination forms are available at the office or you can contact me directly to discuss the role.

Congratulations to Holly Jones after the announcement that she has been selected in the GWR Rebels Football Team for 2024. Making the cut for this type of rep team takes persistence, grit and dedication as well as talent. We wish Holly all the best for the season and look froward to following her progress through the footy ranks.

Well done also to Harley Pickford who will compete at the State Shooting titles in Wagga over the long weekend.
