Creating Futures Together
Thank you to all the families who attended our Instrumental Recruitment Session. It was exciting to see our Year 7’s undertake their first instrumental lessons this week.
Next Tuesday we will commence Beginner Concert Band Rehearsals. This is for all brass, woodwind, and selected bass and percussion students who are in their first year of learning an instrument.
Our first rehearsals will focus on how we set up the band and our instruments, and developing our rhythmic skills, and our ‘pulse’ as an ensemble. Rehearsals run from 8 – 8:45am in M01. This rehearsal will appear on your Compass schedule.
Last week we farewelled Leigh Collins, who has been the guitar and bass teacher at Wheelers Hill since 2018. In that time Leigh has built many positive relationships with his students, and has a taught a number of them throughout their high school years, some right through to their final VCE Music Exams. He was also our amazing Musical Director for our school productions who introduced students into the production band last year, and rehearsing with them on a weekly basis in the months leading up to the production was a very rewarding experience for those students involved.
We thank Leigh for the significant contribution he has made to the Music Learning Area, and we hope to continue with what Leigh has built with our next guitar and bass teacher. I will let you know who that is in our next newsletter! We wish Leigh all the best in his full time role as “Head of Notation” for Pickup Music.
Please take the time to have a look at our Music Calendar for 2024, and mark any relevant dates on your calendar now. All instrumental students will be involved in the Winter and Spring Concerts, and will participate in instrumental exams. Other events list the specific ensemble/s involved.
