Principal's Team Report

Creating Futures Together

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

I am pleased to share with you some noteworthy updates from our vibrant college community as we approach the midpoint of the term.

Year 12 Focus Day

Our Year 12 students recently participated in a special Focus Day in preparation for their final year of study at secondary school. The program included informative sessions on study skills, stress management, and practical management strategies through art therapy and tai chi. Elevate Education and school leaders delivered insightful presentations, equipping our students for the challenges of the school year ahead. The day concluded with a memorable moment as our Year 12 students proudly received their Year 12 jackets, symbolizing the beginning of their journey towards graduation.

Local Member for Mulgrave College Tour

We were honoured to host the local Member for Mulgrave, Eden Foster, who toured our college to gain insights into our ongoing efforts to secure federal grants for master planning. These funds will be crucial for the redevelopment of several buildings, aligning our facilities with the needs of 21st-century learning.

Mama Mia Rehearsals

Excitement is building as rehearsals for our 2024 college production of Mama Mia are well underway. The dedicated team is putting in extra hours each week, with an upcoming incursion and intensive rehearsal camp planned. We anticipate stellar performances in June and appreciate the hard work and dedication of all involved.

Class of 2023 Celebration Assembly

We recently gathered to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2023. This assembly provided an opportunity to recognise not only the students but also the unwavering support of teachers and families. The morning concluded with a morning tea in the theatre, fostering a sense of community within our school.

Year 7 Meet and Greet

Our final Year 6 to 7 Transition event for the term was a success, attended by Year 7 families, teachers, and school leadership. This event is crucial for our new students' adjustment to secondary school and a chance for families to connect with staff onsite. An instrumental music presentation followed, allowing students to explore various instruments and sign up for lessons.

Year 9 Morrisby Assessments

As part of our commitment to creating futures together, Year 9 students will commence Morrisby introduction and assessment sessions in the coming weeks. These workshops and presentations are designed to help students explore opportunities post-secondary school and the pathways to achieve their goals.

NAPLAN Reminder

A reminder for Year 7 and 9 students and families, NAPLAN assessments will run between March 13-19. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring students are well-prepared for this important evaluation. Any families who are concerned about their student sitting NAPLAN, please contact the College.

Attendance Matters

We urge families to continue updating their student's attendance via the Compass parent portal for any day/s they are not present at school. Accurate attendance data is vital for our college, supporting students in achieving their learning outcomes. Every day counts for students in their learning, inclusive of their academic, social and emotional development. (Please include DE attendance documents)

Buses

I would like to update you on our ongoing efforts to enhance student transport services. We are actively trying to support securing an additional bus to ensure a smoother and more efficient commute for our students. To facilitate this process, it is imperative that students consistently use their Myki cards to tap-on when utilizing the bus. The tap-on data collected through these cards will be crucial in assisting Public Transport Victoria to assess the genuine need for an extra bus service. Your cooperation in encouraging students to consistently tap on with their Myki card will greatly contribute to the success of this initiative, ultimately benefiting the entire school community.

On behalf of the Principal Team, thank you for your support of your students and the College.

Mr. Jeremy Woods

Assistant Principal (On behalf of the Principal Team)
