Term 1, Week 5

Literacy

This week we began our Reading group activities. There was a big focus on what good readers do and setting expectations on how reading groups will run. We began our Bloom Ball project, which is a beautiful dodecagon that illustrates different reading comprehensions strategies. So far, we have completed our Activating Prior Knowledge panels, and have started working on our Making Connections Panels.

Education in Faith

Thank you to all of the families and students who have already contributed to our Project Compassion box. The students are very excited to count this at the end of each week. We're looking for donations of loose change, pocket money or even money that might otherwise be used for Friday icy poles. By doing so we are immersing ourselves in the three pillars of Lent. The three pillars of Lent include praying, fasting and almsgiving. We are so close to our next class goal of $100!

Victoria Police Cyber Safety Incursion

On Tuesday we had members of Victoria Police come and speak to the students about the importance of being safe online. Thank you to our STEM teacher Ms. Kim for booking this wonderful and interesting incursion for Years 3-6.

Year 3/4 Camp

Preparations are well underway for camp. Thank you to those families who have completed the permission note on Operoo. This week a packing list will come home with a list of things that need to be brought to camp.

Over the next two weeks it's important to start preparing your child for the time they will spend away from home. Do they know how to shower themselves? Can they turn the hot water on and off independently? Are they competent at dressing themselves and folding their clothes? Does your child know how to use a knife and fork properly? Can they sit at the dining table and eat without moving around? Can they tie their shoelaces? Refreshing students on the importance of these skills over the next two weeks can help to ensure a really positive camp experience for everyone!
