Saint Francis Xavier - Principal's Report

Term 1 - Week 5

Dear Parents and Friends of St Francis Xavier,

Entering the third week of Lent, the season calls us to deepen our commitment to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, fostering a stronger connection with our faith. Embrace this time as an opportunity for contemplation, drawing closer to God and each other. May our collective efforts during Lent bring forth a renewed sense of grace and compassion in our lives.

Victoria Police Cybersafety Visit

On Tuesday we were extremely fortunate to have Neil and Keshia from Victoria Police visit the school to talk with the Grade 3-6 students about Cybersafety. In today's digital age, it's crucial for our young minds to learn about online safety. The officers shared valuable tips on navigating the internet responsibly, ensuring a secure and positive online experience can be had by all. We believe that arming our students with this knowledge will empower them to make informed choices in our digital world. Thank you to our STEM leader Miss Kim for organising the talks.

Student Progress Meetings

Thank you to the families who have already made bookings to meet with your child's teacher next week for a student progress meeting. If you are yet to do so, please log in to School Interviews Online to secure your time.

Student progress meetings will take place in the second half of both Terms One and Three. I strongly encourage families to make a booking so you have the opportunity to discuss with the teacher how your child has adjusted to their new learning environment in 2024.

Just a reminder that if you will have a PSG meeting this term, you do not need to make an appointment for a student progress meeting.

Welcome Picnic

One more sleep before the Welcome Picnic! We look forward to welcoming all students and their families back to school tomorrow evening from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.

Families should bring their own dinner, snacks and drinks. Icy Poles will be on sale for $0.50. There will also be some market stalls to visit and tattoos for the kids. Many of the stalls require cash, so please keep that in mind.

There will be a large jumping castle for S.F.X students and a smaller jumping castle for toddlers.

I need to remind all families that due to Child Safety regulations, this is an Alcohol-Free event.

It is also important to mention that students cannot be dropped at the Welcome Picnic and left alone. This is a family event and all students (and siblings) must have parental supervision at all times while on the school grounds.

Late Arrivals

Could I please ask all families to make sure that children are arriving at school no later than 8:40am.

We seem to be having quite a few students arriving late at the moment. When students arrive at school late, it can be very difficult for them to get started once they enter the classroom. They will have missed instructions that have been given to their classmates and it is very difficult for the teachers who need to then repeat themselves.

I get that mornings can be unpredictable and I completely understand if students are late once or twice in a term. If it is starting to be a regular occurrence in your household however, please make an effort to be as organised as you can the night before. Help students to take their uniforms out and have them ready, pack their bag and make their lunch. Then in the morning, get them out of bed a bit earlier than usual and leave yourself enough time to get to school, stress free with some time to spare.

District Swimming Event

I would like congratulate four of our amazing students who competed at the District Swimming Event at the Pines Swimming Pool last week.  Mr Brendan was there to witness Amelie L, Eva S, Olive S and Mariana R all swim fantastically well in their races. Well done girls!

Eva finished second in her age group and has now qualified for the next stage of competition. Best of luck Eva!

Assembly next week

There will be a whole school assembly next week on Tuesday 5th March, starting at 2:40pm. Parents and families are welcome to attend.

Grade 1/2TV were originally going to present some of their learning to the school at this assembly, however we now need to postpone their presentation until later in the year. We will advise 1/2TV families of the new date as soon as possible.

School Closure Day on Wednesday

One final reminder that Wednesday 6th March is a school closure day at St Francis Xavier Primary School.

We have been informed that Frankston Primary School have a school closure day on the same day, meaning Camp Australia are running full-day supervision. Please use their online booking platform if you would like to secure a place for your child.

Have a great weekend everyone.
