Prep to Yr 4 Swimming - a great success!

Another term of swimming is over and with some wonderful new learning taking place, with some students learning some of the trickier strokes of sidestroke, breaststroke and butterfly for the first time, while others triumphed in opening their eyes under water and swimming on their own in torpedo for the first time, which is equally amazing!  Special mentions to Levi and Phoenix for their improved confidence this term and to Joe B, Hugo, Chloe L, Sadie S, Indiana and Pyper for their much-improved swimming, fast-tracking across two levels this term.

Special thanks to the incredible parent and school community volunteers, Bill, Leonie, Annabel, Jacki and Nat. They gained their qualification their Austswim for the sole purpose of helping our St Joey's students to swim and I really appreciate their effort, time and dedication.   Thanks also to Mrs Hayes for filling in, to the Learning Support Officers, Mel, Kamica, Emma, Jenni G and Lauren, who assisted poolside with us and to the many parents who came and supported their child's learning.

District Swimming Results

What a wonderful day at Yawa we had with over 30 students representing St Joseph's at the Phillip District Swimming Championships on Friday 1st March.  Our students were on their best behaviour in the grandstands as well as in the pool, showed great support for each other and demonstrated extreme effort and swimming prowess in the pool.  To say we felt very proud of every single swimmer, was an understatement! Many students pushed through the nerves to challenge themselves and swim to the best of their ability for the sake of our school, which was inspirational and I thank them for that, while others were bursting with enthusiasm, eager to demonstrate the skills and proficiencies they'd worked so hard on during the previous year.  One and all, we were so proud!

Congratulations to the eleven St Joey's Swimmers who progressed through to the Southern Peninsula Division Swimming Championships representing St Joseph's and the Phillip District in eleven of the events (see below).

District Tennis Championships

Last Friday 8th March, for our School Closure Day, the following students represented St Joseph's Tennis Team at Rosebud Tennis Club for the District Tennis Tournament.  Amidst a mix of some players with a high UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) and many others who enjoy tennis lessons with an occasional game, our students battled on gallantly in the heat and enjoyed their day out together.  Some photos have been sent through across the long weekend.

School Tennis Team:

Boys - Jeremy, Flynn and Charlie W

Girls - Matilda, Isabella and Tahlia

Some of our players were required to play 4 matches straight without a break AND in that heat! What troopers they are!  Well done to each of our fine players!  Charlie Walsh, in particular,  made it through to the quarter finals, losing only to the District Runner-Up. Thank you for the parents who helped with transport and supervision on the day.

Warm Regards,
