School-Wide Positive Behavour Support - SWPBS
School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe, supportive learning cultures. In 2023, in collaboration with the Department of Education, we developed a plan here at Brentwood to implement SWPBS fully in 2024.
SWPBS assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.
When SWPBS is implemented well, teachers and students have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction, creating a positive climate for learning. Students and staff benefit from:
- increased respectful and positive behaviour
- increased time focused on instruction
- improved social-emotional wellbeing
- positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
- increased adoption of evidence-based instructional practices
- a predictable learning environment with improved perceptions of safety and increased attendance.
Around the school and in every classroom expected behaviours that link to our school values are published for students to follow. From time to time teachers may reinforce these expectations with students in order to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to learn in a positive climate.
