Inclusive Education
The Inclusive Education Team at Pilgrim currently has six wonderful Education Support Officers (ESOs) who work with students and teachers across Foundation to Year 6.
Many of you will know that some of the ways our Team support student learning is through targeted intervention of literacy and numeracy skills through in-class and small group work. But did you know that there are many school activities that rely on the assistance of our ESOs?
One such activity is the Aquatics Education Program for students in Foundation – Year 4. Every year in Term 4 students are supported by the Inclusive Education Team to ensure that every child has access to and can participate in this program at the SA Aquatic Centre, by travelling to and from the Centre by bus; providing supervision; support for students to safely access toileting facilities; and maintain their belongings.
Students in Years 5 and 6 participate in an Aquatics Program at Port Noarlunga during Term 1each year, with ESOs assisting class teachers to provide additional supervision and support. Both these aquatic activities are a highlight for many students, and our team value the opportunity to be involved in this way. While spending our days out in the elements, or the humid swimming pool air, we all agree the benefits of seeing students flourish in the opportunity to attain and practice valuable skills is priceless. We are looking forward to sharing this opportunity with our Foundation - Year 4 students again very soon!
