What's been happening in Year 3/4H

Camps

Both year levels were able to share amazing new experiences for the first time. The Year 3s went to Zoo Snooze and stayed overnight with the animals, and the Year 4s joined the Year 5s to stay at Wirraway and get a taste for life on a farm surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Maths

We explored Area by comparing the area of our lunchboxes from largest to smallest. We constructed 3-D models and even had to tithe 10% of the money we earned during Maths lessons!

Art

We have begun exploring weaving this term by using paper strips to create woven patterns and practise the process.

Last term, we had an artist in focus unit on Pete Cromer, analysing his style and technique and using this to create our own collages.

iUnit

As part of our iUnit study on coral reefs, we created our own version using expanding foam for the coral and foil for sculpted versions of reef creatures.

Science

We examined the water cycle and discovered that of the 3% of water on Earth that is fresh to drink, only 1% of that is accessible to use, so finding ways to increase water availability is very important. We investigated what a filter is and how it works, then designed our own filters to turn filthy water into something that Mr Harris was able to drink!

Buddies

We are buddies with students from Year 1/2F this semester and we enjoyed reading together to celebrate the conclusion of the Premier's Reading Challenge.

Australian Maths Competition (AMC)

The AMC is an engaging 30-problem competition that demonstrates the importance and relevance of Mathematics in students’ everyday lives. It was open to students in Years 3 to 6. Australia’s leading educators and academics, with a deep understanding of our national curriculum standards, actively design the unique AMC problems each year.

Kangaroo Island Camp

In Term 3 Week 10, the Year 6s went to Kangaroo Island. We had so much fun! We went to Seal Bay, the bird show, the reptile show, the honey farm, Remarkable Rocks, and many other places.

One of my favourite things was the night walk. We took our torches and set out on the last night for a fun walk. What I really loved about it was that it was such a clear night - you could see every star above your head. I walked with Acacia by my side. I had a lot of fun on the walk. I convinced people to turn off all the torches to see all the stars. We figured out which way south was using the stars.

We also went to a reptile show. They showed us scorpions, lizards, snakes and a bird-eating spider. Then we had a chance to hold a python. I held one and it was so cool! It kept tightening around me (but the presenter said it was very safe). I learnt a lot, and the bird-eating spider was much smaller than I thought it would be!

I really loved my time in Kangaroo Island, especially because it was my first visit there. I hope to go back one day.
