Principal's Report

Dear Armstrong Creek Community,

What a fantastic day for our 3-12 Swimming Carnival. An outstanding display of care, commitment and collaboration 🙂 On the pool deck I witnessed amazing swimming, great sportsmanship and consideration of others. Lots of smiles and laughs. I really enjoyed seeing everyone participate where they they could and the beautiful connection between staff and students. Thank you to the families who were able to support today and thank you to the staff for all their input.

Our Community Celebration is next week and I'm excited to see all the amazing performances and what else is on offer. We hope as many of you are able to make it as possible and it is a wonderful time together. A big thank you to the PACC team for all of the hard work in setting this event up.

PALs (Peer Assisted Learning) – Reading Buddies Program

This term, we have been pleased to trial an exciting before school reading program for a small group of Year 2 and Year 6 students. The Peer Assisted Learning (PALs) approach is designed to further build and enhance students’ reading fluency and comprehension skills through peer mentorship.

Over the past two weeks, eleven of our Year 2 students have been coached and mentored by students from Year 6 to engage in an evidence-based partner reading fluency routine.

This peer-to-peer interaction provides a unique and supportive learning environment that can significantly benefit reading development across a focussed 2-week cycle. Research and experience have shown that a ‘peer assisted learning’ approach to reading can yield remarkably positive learning outcomes, helping students make notable progress in both fluency and comprehension.

As we have now concluded our first trial of this new program today, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the students involved for their fantastic commitment and participation over the past 2 weeks.

The Year 6 student coaches were outstanding within their role of providing kind, caring and effective feedback whilst our Year 2 students did a brilliant job of listening to their coach and taking on new learnings.

A big ‘thank you’ as well to the parents and carers of the students involved for your support of the earlier school drop offs and dedication towards ensuring your child’s commitment to this program.

We look forward to further exploring the possibilities for future implementation of this fantastic reading program in order to provide this opportunity to many more ACS students.

HOT FOOD FOR STUDENTS

We would like to remind all families of our guidelines regarding hot food at school.

  1. Staff are unable to heat food or pour hot water onto food due to safety and supervision concerns. We are unable to provide hot water for student meals during the school day.
  2. Students should bring pre-prepared hot food in an insulated container to ensure it remains at a safe temperature for consumption. Students should not bring hot water in separate containers for use at school, as we are unable to assist with heating or handling hot liquids.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students.

The ACS canteen can provide hot lunches and is available each Monday, Thursday and Friday and you can order here:   https://www.quickcliq.com.au/

Have a great weekend!
