Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

Our article on 22 May this year spoke about digital reputation. Your digital reputation can affect your friendships, relationships and even your job prospects for the rest of your life, so it’s important to be careful about how you present online.

To better support our youth in this area and to ensure we are looking after their online presence, the College’s ICT Agreement now includes an online code of conduct and digital etiquette. Once something is online, it's extremely difficult to remove. This means anyone, even people you don't know, might see it in the future.

Our ICT Agreement now includes the following:

Digital Etiquette

This is the understanding of the appropriate code of conduct and procedures when using mobile devices. It extends beyond recognising bad behaviour in that it actively encourages appropriate and responsible behaviour online.

  • Being polite. Do not get abusive in your messages to others.
  • Using appropriate language. Do not swear, use vulgarities or any inappropriate language.
  • Keeping your personal address or phone number, or the address or phone number of the College or members of the College community private.
  • Using the network in such a way to minimise any cause for disruption or harm to other users.
  • Using College resources in the manner they are developed for and not to spam or mass mail others.
  • Upholding and enhancing the reputation of the school and everyone within the school community.
  • Using the internet to promote kindness, respect and positive interactions with others.
  • Ensuring your online identity is genuine and accurately represents who you are.
  • Use AI generated material responsibly, respecting the identity of St Joseph’s College staff and community along with upholding the integrity of the College’s name and crest.
  • When file sharing, all the College’s security measures are adhered to and files do not contain harmful material.

Digital Health Check

To ensure the longevity of the digital devices provided by the College, a Device Health Check will be conducted at least once during the device’s lifespan with your child.

Currently, this check is scheduled for the middle of the device's 3-year life cycle.

Proper care of these devices is crucial for maximising the learning opportunities facilitated by our teaching staff. The cost for the Device Health Check will be between $25 - $55 per device, and payment to be made via a Compass Event.
