Living with Strength and Kindliness

Last week we blessed and officially opened Kildare Campus. Among the many key moments of celebration on this day, we were fortunate to have Father Taylor bless our new crosses that will hang in the buildings of Kildare Campus.

Today I share with you the story of these crosses. It begins with the centrepiece: a large Brigidine cross, carefully crafted from oak. This oak cross not only reflects the strength and resilience of our faith but also carries a direct connection to the original oak tree that has stood for generations at the heart of our Brigidine Campus.

This modern representation of the Brigidine Cross symbolises the continuity of our faith education—a journey that is deeply rooted in tradition while evolving to meet the challenges and needs of the present.

The two smaller Brigidine crosses have been decorated with First Nations symbols designed by members of our community. These symbols speak to our shared commitment to ongoing reconciliation. Together, these crosses represent our promise to journey side by side in solidarity and mutual respect. In their presence, we are reminded that faith, culture, and community are intertwined in our mission of justice, peace, and education.

Our smaller bronzed crosses serve as both an invitation and a reminder that we are always surrounded by the mystery of faith in everything we do. They symbolise how faith, while deeply communal, also holds space for the personal, offering each individual a unique encounter with the divine.

For both staff and students, these crosses provide a space where they can find themselves and their stories reflected in different representations of faith. Whether through the continuing tradition of Kildare Ministries, inspired by the Brigidine and Presentation Sisters, or by recognising the attributes of sacrifice, service, and compassion exemplified by Jesus, each person is invited to connect in a meaningful way.
