EMTC

Echuca-Moama Theatre Company (EMTC) invites you to travel back to 1890s Echuca when it debuts an original play, Disorderly and Defiant, in October.

Written and directed by EMTC’s talented Francie Finn, the play is inspired by real police court reports from the Riverine Herald, offering a fresh take on Echuca’s rich history from a woman’s perspective.

Disorderly and Defiant follows the gripping story of Gertie Hogan, a woman whose world turns upside down after an unjust arrest. What starts as a fiery clash with some arrogant local businessmen lands her in the notorious Echuca lock-up for a night. As Gertie faces the local magistrate court and the oppressive patriarchal system, she finds strength in a group of feisty friends and an unexpected ally—the suffrage-converted wife of the local sergeant.

This thought-provoking comedy combines wit, humour, and moments of outrage, shining a light on the struggles of underprivileged women in Echuca’s history. It's the perfect opportunity for students, faculty, and families to engage with our local past and the suffragette movement in an entertaining and enlightening way.

Disorderly and Defiant takes the stage at The Foundry Arts Space from October 24-27. Get your tickets now at TryBooking and stay updated by visiting the EMTC Facebook page.

Bring your family and friends for an unforgettable journey through history and laugh-out-loud moments!
