Junior Girls State Soccer
Late last Term, our Year 7 Girls competed in the State Soccer competition in Melbourne.
The girls were a bit slow to start in their first game and couldn’t stop a strong Albert Park, going down 1-4. Special mention to Ayla B who had the tough job of goalie in this game and persevered through it like a champion!
With the nerves out of their system and smiles on their faces, the girls faced the pool winners, Thornbury, on their home turf in our second match for the day.
One player down, the girls were unable to score this round, but they put up a fierce defensive fight and made Thornbury work for every one of their goals.
With nothing to lose in their last game for the day, the girls impressed even themselves scoring goal, after goal against Mt Clear.
Thanks to an excellent display of teamwork the girls were able to finish the day on a high with a 3-2 win.
Well done on an amazing day girls and for representing the school with such pride!
Huge thanks to our coaches Ms Lord and Mr Chakabva.
Junior Boys Campaspe Cricket
Last Tuesday, ten Year 7 students and nine Year 8 students represented St Joseph’s College at the Campaspe Cricket competition at Kyabram's North Oval.
The Year 7 boys showed great skill and determination but unfortunately couldn’t come away with a win.
There were good contributions from everyone all round and the games were much closer in reality than they looked on paper.
Standouts included Hamish T in the field, Bae Q with the ball and Taj M with the bat.
Great effort boys!
The Year 8 boys performed admirably for the day, particularly given less than half the team play cricket regularly.
Led by their captain Ryan C, who also scored the most runs and took the most wickets on the day, the boys played consistent and determined cricket with a team first attitude.
The boys finished the day with four wins from five matches, only going down to SMOTA who went on to win the event for the day, which was an incredible effort.
Well done boys!
LMR Athletics
Students had a big day out competing at the LMR Athletics in Bendigo last week.
With warm, blue skies and no wind - we couldn’t have asked for better conditions for athletics!
All our students competed with grit and determination in their events, with many students walking away with medals and even more importantly, some personal best performances!
We are very proud of all our students efforts, whether they were throwing, jumping or running - they all represented our community to a high standard.
Students who came first in their events will go on to represent St Joseph’s College at the State Athletics in Melbourne on 21 October and we wish them good luck!
Clay Target Shooting
On Monday, three St Joesph's College students attended the 40th annual Benalla Field and Game School Persons shoot, and what a day it was!
With a ripping turn out of 111 students, Marcus & Will K and Oliver W participated in two rounds of 15 targets during the day.
The students all represented themselves and their school so well. Their good sportsmanship and encouragement of each other is heartwarming to witness.
At the end of the day the results were:
- Ollie equal 5th in Senior Boys
- Marcus equal 6th in Senior Boys
- Will equal 5th in New Boys
LMR Inter Girls Cricket
On Tuesday our Intermediate Girls participated in the LMR cricket in Swan Hill.
In their first match against Charlton, the girls pulled together well as a team and took out a great win - 158 to 60.
The second game against Catherine McAuley College was a tough one for the girls and even though they gave it everything they could, they were unable to secure a win.
Overall it was a great day out for the girls and they displayed great teamwork and sportsmanship.
Thanks to our captain Chloe M who led by example and scored an outstanding 119 runs in one game.
She was also brilliantly supported by Eliza F and Kenzie J on the day with their batting and bowling.
Thanks also goes to our photographer Liv and coaches Mr Cantwell and Ms Kurlis.
