What do you love most about working at St Joseph's College?
The people. I work with an amazing bunch of people that love what they do, they are inspirational, passionate and very supportive. I also love working with the young people entrusted to our care. To see students challenge themselves to pursue their goals and the joy they get out of the success they have, especially after taking on something difficult, that's the best part of teaching. Knowing you've helped to make a difference even just in the small moments of every day life, gives me a sense of purpose. Especially when I've encouraged students to get out of their comfort zones and take on a new challenge and they've had success and grown - these are the best moments.
What has been your most memorable moment in your time at St Joseph's College?
There have been lots. I don't know where to start or that I could pick just one. I've been fortunate to have some amazing opportunities: I was Focus Day Coordinator for the Yr 9 level back before we went to the House System. This role helped foster a strong bond with students. I really loved the Hums Day- ANZAC Day when we would have the Veterans come in to talk to students about their experience of war. I have a lot of good memories from camps: Yr 7, 9, 10 and Outdoor Ed and all of the social justice camps and seeing students push themselves out of their comfort zone with the Vinnies Winter Sleep Out. The trip to East Timor and the Lake Mungo Retreat are two experiences I'll never forget. I've been very blessed.
What is one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you?
That I was one of the 'rebellious' kids at school in Year 7 and 8. But I had great teachers that believed in me and that made a world of difference in my senior years.
