Loud Sock Day

Happy World Teachers' Day! Today we celebrate our wonderful educators who live the motto - Work Hard, Be Kind, Have Fun! Thanks to our P&F for the lovely treats which were delivered by some of our Year 6 students and myself, sharing our gratitude for all their hard work and dedication to our school.

It is always a wonderful time of year at John Wollaston when we celebrate our Year 12 students and the journey through their time at school. The Gift of the Candle Service is always a highlight. There have been so many wonderful events this fortnight, one barely knows where to begin. The students and teachers have contributed their reflections which capture the range of opportunities for our students as Term 4 continues.

Please be sure to keep checking SEQTA to stay up to date with events across the term. Further to my earlier letter to parents', if there are any additional people who would like to be part of our 'Welcome to JWACS' parents team on Orientation Day, please be sure to let me know - there's a lovely morning tea and good company on offer!

Year 4 Encounter

By Year 4 Students

At the beginning of the day we were at school getting ready to head off on our adventure in the city, we got into lines and headed off in the big luxurious buses. When we got there, we got into our groups. We went to Kings Park, South Perth, the oldest building in Perth, the Zoo and many other places. We also went on a ferry, which many people loved. Most groups found counting the fountains, stairs and bells at the Bell Tower hard since there were so many of them.

Another thing that many people enjoyed was going to the oldest building in Perth, which was a court. In our groups we picked a judge, a lawyer, a jury, a witness, and the suspect. We had fun role playing! At three o’clock we all went back to where we first started and waited for the bus to arrive and pick us up.

As we set foot onto the School grounds, each student was relieved to know that we had finished the hard part. There were groans of exhaustion and shouts of excitement as we trudged to the Upper Primary Building. At last, we were in a place known for relaxation: the classrooms.

We settled in and got a choice of refreshments and some crispy biscuits. Each student ate hungrily because of their extremely low energy. Later on, we had an option of ultimate dodgeball or some relaxation. I’m sure that if you had a day full of walking non-stop you would be quite surprised at how many people lined up for dodgeball. The relaxation was a chance to supposedly get more biscuits, play games, and chat with friends. Dodgeball on the other hand, was to vigorously run and jump.

After a good game, or relaxing, it was time to eat. Everybody was excited and thrilled to know that we were having pizza. From pepperoni to vegetable, there were many varieties. The base was fluffy, the sauce was creamy, the meat was delicious, the cheese was stretchy, and the vegetables were nourishing.

At about 7:30pm, we were full and ready to watch a movie of our choice. There were beautifully coloured tickets and depending on our ticket, we were assigned to go to a cinema (classroom). Some movies were sad, victorious, or enjoyable with an amazing climax.

With sleepy eyes, we tumbled into our beds. They were all wonderfully cushioned. We chatted away and with lovely dreams ahead, we drifted off to sleep.

Once we woke up, we chatted until 7:00am, before brushing our teeth and getting dressed. When we finished packing up, we ate our breakfast. There was Nutri Grain, Cocoa-Pops and toast with lots of choices for spreads. After we finished, some people chatted or played handball, but when the teachers called “SECONDS”, everyone ran inside to grab more food.

Now the Encounter had come to an end, the parents came to pick everyone up. They waited patiently at the fence and it was time to say bye to our friends. We collected our belongings and went to greet our parents, eager to tell them how great our time was.

Pre-Primary Encounter

The Pre Primary students could hardly contain their excitement on Friday morning, buzzing with anticipation for their very first JWACS Encounter experience. The day took them to the beautiful Rio Tinto Naturescape in Kings Park, where they immersed themselves in hands-on activities and explored the wonders of nature. From climbing rocks and towers and walking through a creek, to discovering local birdlife and insects, the students embraced every moment of the adventure.

It was a fantastic day filled with learning, laughter, and new experiences in the great outdoors.

Some quotes and memories from students about the day:

“I loved making dams in the creek.”

"I'm a little bit scared and a little bit brave. Like 60/60"

“I loved crossing the slippery log over and over again!”

"The rules sometimes just go in my ears and then out very quickly."

It was great sharing this experience with parent helpers!
